Speaker:
Matt Bloomberg from the City of Fremont
The City of Fremont has a bike program. They are a member of Vision Zero (goal is to eliminate serious traffic accidents). The city adopted this policy in 2015. One result is, there has been a 27% reduction of fatal accidents.
Under the city’s general plan, the city has a vision of reducing vehicle traffic and enhancing safety for all roads, sidewalks, users of safe crossings, and transit riders. They are working on changes to Morrison Canyon, education for kids, and getting more workers to commute by bike.
The city is also working on “Complete Streets,” streets for everyone. They are designed and operated to enable safe access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities. Complete Streets make it easy to cross the street, walk to shops, and bicycle to work.
The city is considering a dock-less bike share program which would include ebikes and scooters; also an app that would interact with bike detecting systems at stop lights.
The City of Fremont Bicycle Pedestrian committee meets September 26 at 7:00 at the City of Fremont Development Center, 39550 Liberty Street, Fremont
Meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
