PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
From the Summit:
Whew! November was an exciting month for Fremont Freewheelers. The new e-Newsletter was successfully launched. Thank you Marty, Jamie and Wynn!! The ride calendar bulged with many challenging rides. Thank you Ron and all the wonderful ride leader volunteers!! Those members in attendance for the November meeting enjoyed a very informative and entertaining presentation by Lee Huo the Alameda County representative from the San Francisco Bay Trail. Many questions were answered prompting relative new member John Goeschi to volunteer for the open East Bay Bicycle Coalition club representative position.
I would like to put in a plug for the Day-After-Thanksgiving Ride beginning in Pacific Grove. As in former years, we will join former FFBC members, Sam and Ellen Boykin who join us from Los Osos. The ride takes us through the Seventeen Mile Drive to Carmel with an optional jaunt out to Point Lobos and back either via the coast route or through the more challenging hillier route. For those members with young children or a non-cycling spouse, there are many sights to enjoy by automobile. We will all get together after the ride for a wonderful fish dinner at Phil’s Fish House in Moss Landing.
Look for an equally exciting month in December. Carrie Payne and her committee are busy planning FFBC’s Holiday Party scheduled for December 4 and taking place in the Centerville Community Center. We will enjoy a wonderful pot luck dinner followed by a rousing White Elephant gift exchange. The ride calendar is once again brimming with exciting and challenging cycling opportunities. Besides many of our tried and true rides, don’t miss Jim Herman’s night ride through Newark and Fremont with a chance to enjoy the local Holiday light displays followed by socializing over a cup of hot cocoa, tea or coffee at Newark Java. And, Jamie will once again provide an occasion to enjoy a ride through Pleasanton’s wine country followed by wine tasting at Mitchell Katz Winery.
Primavera 2006 planning is underway. A date has been set and Sally Wilson has agreed to chair with the stipulation that a co-chair be found who will agree to chair Primavera 2007. Sally has several years of experience so this is an excellent opportunity for a volunteer to learn the ropes from a well-seasoned authority. FFBC’s Primavera has a long history of providing outstanding rider support and is a well known and respected local century.
Looking ahead, January will once again witness the beginning of the Cinderella Training Rides. To get things off to a healthy start, the Orientation and Bike Check will be held January 14. For more information, Jamie and Joyce have agreed to present the January club program with a slide show providing background and club member volunteering opportunities.
That’s all there is for now!
See you on the road.
Karen White
