RACE TEAM REPORT
Race Team plans for 2006
Every member of FFBC knows that riding in groups is more fun than riding alone. The same goes for racing! Working together as part of a Team; racing to a plan is extremely rewarding. For 2006, we want to encourage this as much as possible and this is why we have instigated the following 2 programs:
1. Race Support at Targeted Events
Those in the Club with long memories may remember Brian Meiers – he was one of the original members of the Race Team when it formed in 1987. He rejoined us in 2005 as he returned to the cycling scene, bringing with him the experience of working as part of a professional racing team, Team Shaklee.
For 2006 Brian has offered this experience and expertise to the FFBC Race Team. Brian will provide Race Support for the Team at the following high-profile races during the season.
- March: McLane Pacific Road Race
- April: Wente Weekend (RR & Crit)
- May: Cats Hill Criterium
- June: Pescadero RR
- July: Davis 4th July Crit
- August: District Championship RR
- September: Giro di San Francisco
The goals are two-fold – provide support for our riders before, during and after an event; but equally importantly, be a way in which we can publicize our generous sponsors in a professional manner. Brian’s pro-team experience will be invaluable, and the Team as a whole is very excited about this support.
2. Inter-category Competition To further encourage our riders to work together in their categories, for 2006 we have introduced a season-long inter-category competition. There are points available to the categories (1/2, 3, 4 & 5) if more than 2 riders from a category race an event. The standings in this competition will be updated occasionally through the newsletter.
So, if you wish to come out and watch us race in 2006, I would strongly encourage you to attend one of our targeted events – full event details are available through http://www.ncnca.org. The Team will be at these events in force looking to place well.
