February 2006 Ride Calendar

2006 Progressive Ride Series

With Changeable Schedule
Truly Progressive, Rain or Shine!

Again this year we are offering the popular progressive ride series, aimed toward developing your endurance and skills for completing a century ride this spring or summer. These progressive rides will culminate with the Primavera Worker's Ride on SATURDAY, April 15th, 2006.

Each PRS ride is assigned a ride sequence number, and the rides will be done in that order. In the event of a rainout, the ride will be postponed until the next Sunday. This will enable us to keep developing our endurance in a progressive method. Riders must check with the PRS Coordinator, Jamie Hyams, to confirm which ride will be taking place each week. There will be both an M pace group usually led by Jamie and a B pace group usually led by Daryl Wilson. If you have any questions, please call Jamie at (510) 207-0748 or Daryl at (510) 797-6515.

Over the Hill to Woodside
7:30 AM 4M, 100K
Meeting place Starbucks (Mowry & Blacow)
[See the February Club Newsletter for details of this ride series.}
On this second ride of the series we will, once again, join the Progressive group on its way to Woodside (assuming they have not been rained out in previous weeks, in which case we'll be riding on our own). They start at 8:30, so we'll get a jump on them and warm up by riding a nice flat circle at the beginning of the ride to get in our extra miles while our legs are fresh.
We'll head out to Edgewood Road, with a lunch/coffee stop at Roberts Market.
NOTE: Like the Progressive Ride series, bad weather will just push back the listed ride to another day that month (probably 2/25 or 2/26). These will be M pace rides, probably averaging in the 13 MPH range for the entire trip, but B riders and a B ride leader are welcome and encouraged to set their own pace (call me if you want to co-lead this with me at a B pace).
Rain or threat of rain cancels. If rain threatens, call me the day of the event between 6:30am and 7:30am. If the ride is cancelled call me for the rescheduled date.

Cinderella's, were you unable to make yesterday's ride or need more miles? Meet me Sunday for a redux of Saturday's Cinderella Training Ride. Everyone is welcome (men too) but please note that this is not a substitute for the Cindrella training. It is assumed you have already learned basic riding skills. Bring money for a coffee stop. Same start location as the Saturday's ride. For rides starting at the Bicycle Garage, please park on the street or away from the businesses (not at the church)- better yet carpool or ride over. Rain cancels (call if unsure). If the Saturday ride is canceled due to rain, we will meet at Newark Java for a Show and Go.

Then it's relatively flat down past Club Sport to the end of Fremont Blvd. We'll turn around and have a coffee break at the REI or Pacific Commons Starbucks and decide whether to head straight back (for about 25 miles) or make our way over to Coyote Hills for a trip back on the trail (for about 30 - 35 miles). The shorter option should get us back before 11:30, the longer before 12:30. Rain or threat of rain cancels. If rain threatens, call me between 7:30 and 8:00 on the day of the ride.

Sat. Feb. 11 ATOC Stage 2 Preview, (Part 1)
9:00 AM 4B, 55 miles
Allez, allez! To celebrate the Amgen Tour of California (ATOC) coming through our backyard, we've been inspired to lead two rides covering most of the Stage 2 route through the East Bay over the next two Saturdays. I'm leading the northern half, starting at the north (or west?) side of the Pleasant Hill BART Station. We'll have a warm-up through Walnut Creek before tackling the first three hills of the stage: Pig Farm, Mama Bear, and Happy Valley. In Lafayette, we'll make our way south to Moraga, then over familiar roads to get back to Castro Valley before the final climb of the day (for us) up Palomares. The ride officially ends at the Niles Parking Lot, but I'm more than happy to lead (not drive!) riders back to BART if needed.
To get to the start, take the 7:52 AM Richmond train from Fremont BART (or 7:56 at Union City, like me) and transfer at 12th St / Oakland City Center to the Pittsburg / Bay Point line to arrive at Pleasant Hill at 8:56. This will be a "no-dawdling" ride with no scheduled coffee/lunch stop, so please pack accordingly. Vive le Tour!
