East Bay Bicycle Coalition (EBBC)
John Goeschl attended the EBBC meeting and reported on its initiatives and progress.
EBBC is interested in developing the Bay Trail and is focused on the Richmond area. Bay Meadows has agreed to a temporary trail around its parking lot.
EBBC has strongly recommended that people become involved in Bicycle Advisory Committees (BAC’s).
Funds have been allocated to modify BART cars to accommodate bicycles and luggage for airport travelers. The goal is for the first and last car of 4-5 car trains to have additional space for bikes. John will attend the next BART Bicycle Task Force meeting.
The week long “Go Greenbelt” ride around the Bay Area will take place from April 23-29. The ride is a fundraiser to support land conservation.
The next EBBC meeting takes place on February 21.
Primavera
Sally Wilson shared artwork for the 2006 Primavera logo and T-shirts.
Karen White has offered to serve as Volunteer Coordinator. Sally brought volunteer forms to the meeting.
Almost all Rest Stop Captains have been lined up. The club still needs a Captain for the Palo Verde Rest Stop.
The Radio Club will help again.
17 riders have already registered online.
Photo Crazy, a company that has taken photos on the course in the past, claims to have patented a process for making photos available on the Internet. Photo Crazy has notified FFBC that we will infringe on its patent if we allow other photographers on the course and asked us to sign an agreement not to allow other photographers. The Board decided that FFBC will not sanction a photographer. Sally will respond to Photo Crazy.
Volunteers will receive baseball caps instead of coffee mugs this year.
Fundraising Ride
Jeff Girard announced that he will participate in a May 12 ride that’s a fundraiser for brain tumor research. The ride is in the Northeast, and Jeff will ride 50 miles here as a virtual rider. Jeff will contact prospective contributors.
Program
Richard Brockie reviewed highlights of the Race Team’s 2005 season and a preview of the 2006 season including information on the proposed downtown criterium.
Ron Mitchell presented Ride Leader Incentive and Pedal Pounder awards for 2005.
Report to FFBC about East Bay Bicycle Coalition (EBBC)
By John Goeschl
- Several segments of Bay Trail are in progress in the Richmond area. Bay Meadows Race Track has agreed to set up a temporary trail around their parking lot now, with a permanent trail to come soon. Solutions are being sought to complete sections in the Richmond area to meet environmental concerns.
- Strong recommendation for people to become involved in Bicycle Advisory Committees (BACs) in all bay area county and regional agencies. (A model charter is available on their web site.)
- Discussion about Caldecot Tunnel mitigation.
- BART Bicycle improvements. $800,000 was requested for modifications to BART cars to accommodate bicycles and luggage for airport travelers. Believe $500,000 has been allocated. The idea is to have the first and last of 4 & 5 car trains on airport routes have extra room by removing at least one row of seats, possibly in last row of car. This may be a problem when cars are full at commute times. The BART Bicycle Task Force meets first Monday of even numbered months at 6:00 PM in MetroCenter.
- Announced 17 th annual “Go Greenbelt” week long fund raising ride around bay area April 23-29 to support land conservation. See www.greenbelt.org.
Next meeting February 21, 7:30 PM at Oakland Rockridge Branch Library.
