BOARD AND MEMBERSHIP MEETING MINUTES
FFBC Club Meeting Minutes–May 4 , 2006
Location: REI
Time: 7:30 PM
New Members and Guests
New members and guests introduced themselves.
Minutes
It was pointed out that, in the May newsletter, a Race Team article was incorrectly included as part of the April meeting minutes.
Membership
Dave Ransom reported that the club has 390 members. Some members have not renewed for 2006. Some members prefer the hard copy newsletter to the current electronic newsletter. An editor would be needed for a hard copy newsletter. Further discussion is needed.
Ride Coordinator
Ron Mitchell advised that the club needs a leader for the June pizza rides. Some members cannot commit to lead rides for a full month. If the site is set for a month, perhaps more than one member can share ride leadership duties for that month.
Mike Northrup will lead a ride on the Cinderella course on the third Saturday of June, probably starting at Sunol Glen School.
The club needs a B paced leader for the monthly Calaveras ride for May.
Treasurer
Sydney Friedenberg gave the treasurer’s report. The club has 752 paid registrations for the Primavera.
Clothing Sales/Member Outreach
Molly Michelfelder reported that the club sent a card to Donna Boomershine.
East Bay Bicycle Coalition (EBBC)
John Goeschl reported that the last EBBC meeting included discussions of two items of interest to FFBC:
- Some clubs have been required to pay a parade license fee to the county sheriff’s department for large organized rides such as centuries. A new sheriff will take office soon. It was pointed out that rides such as the Primavera, which require no road closures, traffic controls or police/sheriff presence have not generally been subject to such fees.
- The City of Richmond has decided to put a green zone through town. Some Bay Trail funds have been frozen pending actions in Fremont. John will meet with the coordinator of the Bay Trail and report back to the club.
Race Team
Richard Brockie reported that the Race Team’s criterium is scheduled for June 10. No club rides will be scheduled on that day. Garry Birch has asked for volunteers for the event. The Team believes it has enough sponsorship to cover the costs of holding the race at the proposed downtown location.
Primavera
Primavera Chair Sally Wilson reported that there were 752 registered riders and 662 riders on the road for the 2006 Primavera. Many volunteers contributed to the success of the event. The club’s attorney has advised FFBC to avoid discussing the fatality.
On Palomares Road, a rider was forced off the road and injured. The rider asked that the club be notified of a white Navigator with chrome wheels, black tinted windows and a California license plate beginning with 1 and including a subsequent G or a 6.
Sally has spoken to the CHP recently. CHP officers have asked if the club had permits. Sally told them that the club does not ask for road closures, traffic controls or police/sheriff presence for the Primavera.
The Primavera needs support for 2007.
New FFBC Jerseys
Eric Nava sent a message to members about prospective jersey designs. This is not a final vote on jersey designs. It is an opportunity to give Eric some feedback on prospective designs.
Program
Wynn Kageyama and Ken Kratz gave an informative presentation on the Major Taylor Cycling Club.
The meeting adjourned at 9 pm.
