FROM THE SUMMIT
Birds are singing, flowers have blossomed and the roads are resplendent with an array of vibrant bicycle jerseys. Spring has arrived with a vengeance. FFBC made its presence felt in the Livermore Valley during the recent metric century a month organized by Mike Northrup, Anne Hollingsworth, Tim and Robin O’Hara and Bert and Florence Silver. With three paces offered, Fremont cyclists numbered well over 40 participating members. This may not be a record but it was wonderful to report that no was left behind and a good time was had by all. Despite the unseasonably warm weather, everyone who started the ride finished and, from what I could see, one and all finished reasonably strong.
Our race team must be congratulated for the superb organization of this year’s Criterium held in conjunction with Fremont’s 50-year anniversary. The location was outstanding, the talent was fabulous, the weather was perfect, the course was imaginative, but best of all a splendid day was had by all. So many people were involved in making this day special. I heard nothing but positive comments from spectators. A big thank you to everyone involved.
Once again, FFBC will be participating as volunteers during EBBC’s second annual double century ringing the entire bay area. The Bay in a Day double century will be held on Saturday, July 22. FFBC has been asked to support a rest stop in South Fremont and provide several additional volunteers to ride shot gun in SAG vehicles. Warm Springs Elementary school will be this year’s rest stop site. I have volunteered to help as rest stop captain and will need 4‑6 rest stop volunteers and 2 SAG vehicle volunteers. EBBC organizers have assured me that rest stop hours will be from 10:30 to 1:00 with SAG volunteers needed from 10:00 until 1:30. The school accommodations appear to be quite comfortable with inside restrooms, an overhead canopy, running water and tables with benches. Bring your bicycles and we can plan a ride to McCarthy Ranch for coffee to unwind and a bit of on-the-bike exercise. Please contact me if you will be available to help in either capacity.
That’s all I have time for. So, until next time, good riding, be safe and support your favorite bicycle club by volunteering to lead a ride.
