WEDNESDAY EVENING PIZZA RIDE
Come One! Come All! Join Tim & Robin O’Hara (with help from Adriana and Carl Anderson) for the ever popular Wednesday evening Pizza Rides. For the month of August, the pizza rides will meet each week at Mission Pizza, located at 1572 Washington Blvd, Fremont, (510) 651-6858. This is the plaza on Washington between Paseo Padre Pkwy and the Washington exit from Interstate #680. Please park at the rear of the shopping complex rather than in front of the Pizza parlor as this space is shared. As always, there will be two routes; a longer more challenging ride, and a shorter flatter ride. The rides meet at 6:00 PM for sign in to be completed by 6:10. When signing in, remember to check “YES” or “NO” on the sign in sheet for pizza so we have an accurate head count on who is staying after the ride. The Pizza Order is placed before we depart. Departure time is 6:15 sharp. The cost is $5.00 per person and that includes three pieces of Pizza and a soda per rider. Tim and Robin will lead the rides on August 2, 9, 16, and Adriana and Carl will lead the rides on August 23 and 30.
Please pair up with riders of similar abilities, and help each other so that no one is left riding or fixing a flat alone.

Sun. Aug. 6 Intro to Brisk Series #1 – East Bay Hills
8:00 AM 38 miles, 4 M-B
Sitting out two months has inspired me to experiment again (uh, oh). Have you considered trying Brisk paced rides, but think they’re too fast? Heard too many stories about B-pace rides turning into races? Well, here’s an opportunity to try the Brisk pace without being chewed up and spit out the back. The idea is to have a “casual B” ride without it turning into an “F” ride, but still be challenging enough for the faster riders. The Intro to Brisk rides will be no-drop, but with minimal stops—and no dawdling! Hopefully, these rides will suit M-pacers who would like a challenge, B-pacers who would like a Sunday, recovery-type ride, and any M-B types could go either way. Today’s ride will be a brisk, but peaceful sojourn through the foliage and little-used sections of Pinehurst Rd. (before it closes), along with good ol' Redwood and Skyline. It's a short ride, so there will be no full rest stops, but we will have a water stop and a couple of regroups. Start location will be the Castro Valley Park and RideLot on Center Street. Call or email me if you need directions.
Mike Williams (510) 475-7215, cell (510) 364-4335, passline@bigfoot.com
Sun. Aug. 6 Ron’s Surprise Ramble
8:30 AM 20-30 miles, 2 T-M
This will be an easy ride around the tri cities area, at or below the level of the “Get To Know Us” ride. We will start from Newark Java. I will decide the route depending on the weather and who calls ahead to influence my decision. Bring $$ for a coffee stop mid ride. Rain Cancels.

Sun. Aug. 6 Show and Go

Mon. Aug. 7 Monday Morning Recovery Ride
8:30 AM 1-2 M, 25 to 38 miles
Let's meet at the Bicycle Garage at 8:30 for an 8:45 start to an easy-going ride down Paseo Padre to South Grimmer. Then it's relatively flat down past Club Sport to the end of Fremont Blvd. We'll turn around and have a coffee break at a local Starbucks and decide whether to head straight back (for about 25 miles) or make our way over to Coyote Hills for a trip back on the trail (for about 38 miles). The shorter option will get us back before 11:30, the longer well before 12:30. Elevation gain is 465 feet. Rain or threat of rain cancels. If rain threatens, call me between 7:30 and 8:00 on the day of the ride.

We will regroup at Hayward Shoreline Park, and then back to the Hayward Interpretative Center adjacent to Hyw. 92. An alternative short ride, designed for families and new riders, will take roads with good bike lanes, back streets, trails, and mostly right turns directly to the Hayward Center where we will all meet up for free refreshments and a short, guided nature observation. We will return on the Bay Trail Overpass Bridge over Hwy. 92 on our way back to the start.

Sun. Aug. 13 Diablo to the Top
8:00 AM 50 miles, 5B
I didn’t get the chance to lead this ride in May, so August will have to do. We'll start at the Pleasanton Park and Ride (Stoneridge and Johnson Dr, first light after turning right on the Stoneridge exit off 680 North). The idea will be to ride to the start of the climb together, then head up the mountain (via South Gate and Summit Rd.) at our own individual pace. We’ll return the same way. Keep in mind that there is no lunch/coffee stop planned, so be self-sufficient.
NOTE: While Summit Rd. is supposed to be open on weekends, there is still a possibility of closure. If that happens on 8/13, we can decide on an alternate route for the day.

PREVIEW FOR SEPTEMBER
1) Get your September rides in early. The ride coordinator will be out of town for a large part of August.
2) We are looking for volunteers to lead the Pizza rides for September.
3) Club Picnic and Rides; Keep Sunday September 17 open for the annual Fremont Freewheelers Bicycle Club Picnic in Alum Rock Park. As in past years we will have rides for all levels starting at various distances from Alum Rock Park so there are rides for all abilities. If anyone has a ride they want to lead a part of this effort please let me know.
4) MMM; Mike’s Metric a Month will occur Saturday the 9th for September. The route is still TBD.
PREVIEW BEYOND SEPTEMBER
1) Day After Thanksgiving Ride in the Monterey area; Shelley will lead the L-T pace group, and I have a pile of route sheets to use up from last year so let’s all hope it does not rain this year!
