FROM THE SUMMIT

Where were you on September 17th? If you were among the 40 or so club members, family and friends in attendance for this year’s club picnic, you made yourself accessible to the many riches available to active bicyclists living in our beautiful bay area, i.e.; friendly cycling companions, challenging roads with scenery to match and all the great barbecue your tummy will hold. The weather cooperated, Alum Rock Park was beautiful, Mt. Hamilton and the surrounding roads were unsurpassed for challenge and splendor and Armadillo Willy’s outdid themselves with scrumptious barbecued chicken, beef brisket, potato salad and corn bread muffins. I want to thank all of our wonderful ride leaders; Mike Williams who led a spirited group to the top of Mt. Hamilton and back, Lori Sommers who lead a very well attended family fun ride and Jim Herman who provided an alternate route to Alum Rock via up and over Clayton Road to return on Mt. Hamilton Road. Each and every one of the three rides provided an opportunity to work up an appetite, enjoy friendly cycling companionship and benefit from the challenging landscape. I want to also thank Dave Ransom who arrived early at Alum Rock Park in order to hold our space, Ron Mitchell who brought in additional rider snacks, i.e. corn chips and salsa and Wynn Kageyama who arranged with his wife to bring additional paper plates and utensils when I panicked over the number of additional attendees.

Our next big event is our upcoming holiday party now in the planning stages with Susan Lucchesi at the helm. A date and place has been secured. Look for late breaking updates in future newsletters.

I am pleased to serve another year as President of an organization as spirited, caring and capable as the Fremont Freewheelers and look forward to another satisfying term. I will be serving with a great Board of Directors and eagerly anticipate a challenging year with a group of clever and resourceful team members. 2006/2007 will be my last year serving as president and I look forward to handing the gavel to my successor. FFBC is a club of many talents and abilities but we are all also very busy with our other life. Serving on the Board of such a diverse and able organization is not an overwhelming undertaking and I ask that each of you consider what you can bring to this task.

See you on the road.

Karen White
FFBC President
