Sometimes I forget why I really like to ride a bicycle...

...and it has very little to do with how fast I can go or how well my bike goes up hills. My bike can take me places, quickly and quietly, that I might not bother with otherwise. I was reminded of this recently when a friend e-mailed me to tell me that she had done a Google search for images and two of my pictures showed up.

Almost immediately my mind went to quiet rides in Shoreline Park across the Bay or down the Alameda Creek trail with my camera bag on the front of my bike. My sole purpose was to see if I could get a good picture of something, usually a bird.
