BOARD MEETING MINUTES
FFBC CLUB MEMBERS MEETING MINUTES
Date/Time: November 2, 2006 7:30 pm
Location: REI
Call to Order and Minutes
Meeting called to order and October minutes approved.
Ride Coordinator
Jim Herman asked that December rides be scheduled by the 3rd week of November. Details of the Friday after Thanksgiving ride are in the calendar. Ron Mitchell passed out free Monterey/Pacific Grove tourist maps and mentioned ride leaders were needed for the New Years Day Ride.
Race Team
Jason Sage announced the beginning of the training rides led by Gary Birch and because the City of Fremont is not charging the Club for last summer’s Criterium, the Club will make a $1,000 donation to the City. He also explained the Team’s plan to become a subsidiary of FFBC with its own constitution. He stressed that the Race Team has no intention of separating from the Club but wants the flexibility to solicit tax-exempt sponsorships. Amendments to the FFBC constitution and bylaws will be necessary and a committee of two FFBC members and two Race Team members will be appointed. Volunteers should talk to Karen White.
Treasurer’s Report
Sydney Freidenberg reported the Club has $28,737 in the checking account and $9,139 in a CD.
Member Outreach
Molly Michelfelder sent cards to members for births, deaths, illnesses and injuries.
Old Business
John Goeschl still needs an assistant chairperson, a SAG coordinator and artwork ideas for the 2007 Primavera. Volunteers please contact him. All other contacts and preliminary arrangements for the event have been made. He is scheduling various rides over portions of the 100-mile route and needs riders with GPS to check the mileage and elevations.
Holiday Party
Susan Lucchessi reminded the membership that the Holiday Party is December 3 at Las Cerritos (Fremont & Alder). It is a potluck and help is needed for setup and take down. Bring a White Elephant gift. No hard liquor, but wine is permissible.
Pedal Pounders
Mark Davis reported that ride sheets are kept for two years then shredded. He asked that ride leaders please have non-members sign the liability waiver on the back of the sign-in sheet in order to protect the Club. A revised sign-in sheet will be on the website soon.
The business part of the meeting was adjourned. Refreshments were provided.
Program
Due to illness, Florence and Bert Silver were forced to cancel their scheduled presentation. The members watched one part of Karen White’s new video produced by the League of American Bicyclists: Essentials of Bicycling.
FFBC BOARD MEETING
Date/Time: November 2, 2006 6:30 pm
Location: REI
Attendees: Karen White, Sydney Friedenberg Jim Herman, Ron Mitchell, Mike Northrup, Jason Sage, Conni Smith, John Goeschl, guest
Call to Order and Minutes
The meeting was called to order; the October 2006 Board Meeting Minutes were approved.
Treasurer’s Report
Jason began by announcing there would be no bill from the City of Fremont for the Race Team’s Criterium last summer and the Club planned to donate $1,000 to the City instead.
Sydney reported that the Club’s $9,139 Certificate of Deposit matures 11/10/06 and it has until 11/16/06 to make changes. Discussion ensued on splitting the money into two CDs for different lengths of time in order to have them mature at times of need (ex. Primavera). The Board authorized Sydney and Ron M. to investigate and make a decision on how to reinvest the money.
Programs, Sign-in Sheet, Ride Leader Guide
Karen mentioned that having a program for the Members’ Meeting reflects an active club and perhaps each Board member could organize one per year. No decision was made.
A revised sign-in sheet for Club rides will be posted on the Club website. Ride leaders should start using this Dec. 1, 2006.
Ron Mitchell will also post a draft ride leader guide on the Club website.
Membership
Karen announced that postcards will be sent to Club members in January reminding them its time to pay 2007 membership dues.
Race Team
Jason updated the Board on the Race Team’s desire to pursue tax-exempt status by April 2007 in order to facilitate sponsorships. This will require the Team to formally incorporate and become a subsidiary of FFBC. FFBC will be required to amend its constitution and bylaws. Discussion.
Ride Coordinator
Jim reported that the November calendar is prepared and will include the popular Friday after Thanksgiving ride in Monterey.
Newsletter
Following inquiries from Club members, Karen led a discussion about bringing the production of the Club newsletter in house. She reported that the production costs were $90 per month with small additional expenses for distribution - much less than the members thought. The Board declined to make any changes.
Primavera
John Goeschl, Primavera Chairperson, stated he was still in need of an assistant chairperson and a SAG coordinator.
No December Board meeting will be held. The Holiday Party is December 3.
Meeting adjourned.
