BOARD MEETING MINUTES
FFBC MEMBERSHIP MEETING
Date: May 3, 2007
Time: 7:30 pm
Location: REI
Call to Order, Minutes
Karen White called the meeting to order; the April minutes published in the FFBC Newsletter were approved.
Membership Report
Dave Ransom reported that the club had over 300 paid members.
Race Team
Jason Sage reported it was getting to the heart of the race season. FFBC racers were consistently riding though few were top finishers. He reminded members of the upcoming Cat’s Hill race in Los Gatos, a good family viewing event. He also encouraged member to volunteer for the Club’s June 30 Crit. No Club rides are scheduled for that day to encourage volunteering.
Ride Coordinator
Jim Herman reported the Pizza Rides still need ride leaders for July through September and the June Ride Calendar needs listings.
Wei Sun won the ride leader drawing and was awarded a sweatband and socks.
Treasurer’s Report
Sydney reported on the club’s account balances:
- Checking: approx $23,400
- CDs (2): approx. $20,400
- Primavera expenses: approx. $17,500 with a few more to come in;
- Primavera income: approx $22,000
Clothing Sales
Ed Tanaka was not in attendance, but Karen announced that the new jersey committee planned to meet next month.
Member Outreach
Molly was not in attendance, though members contributed various events for which she sent cards.
Old Business
- John Goeschl thanked Primavera volunteers and reminded them of Sunday’s Workers Dinner is open to all volunteers who worked on the ride in any capacity;
- Karen relayed the Board’s decision to search for a new meeting place. Mike Northrup is heading this search and welcomes suggestions. Shelly mentioned the Silliman Center;
- Dave Ransom volunteered information on correspondence he’d received: Fremont Bank is looking for participants for its Health and Safety Fair; the Spokeswomen’s Mountain Bike Camp in Canada is coming up.
Presentation
Dale Blanchard presented a delightful slide show of photographs he took during the Primavera ride and at all Primavera rest stops. With Ulla’s help, each person in each picture was named. He and Ulla traveled the full route, visiting with and photographing volunteers and riders.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 pm.
FFBC BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES
Date: May 3, 2007
Time: 6:30 pm
Location: REI
Attendance: Karen White, Jim Herman, Jason Sage, Mike Northrup, Sydney Friedenberg, Ron Mitchell, Conni Smith, John Goeschl, guest.
Call to Order; Minutes
Karen White called the meeting to order; the April minutes were approved.
Treasurer’s Report
Following a discussion on whether dollar amounts should be reported in the minutes, Sydney reported on the club’s account balances and recent expenses:
- Checking: approx $23,400
- CDs (2): approx. $20,400
- Primavera expenses: approx. $17,500 with a few more to come in;
- Primavera income: approx $22,000
Race Team
Jason Sage reported racers were consistently showing up and racing, though few were placing at this time. The Cat’s Hill race in Los Gatos, the biggest race of the year, was this coming weekend. They are still working with the City of Fremont for the June 30th Criterion.
Ride Coordinator
Jim Herman reported that Pedal Pounder and ride leader credit guidelines would remain unchanged. These guidelines are listed on the FFBC web page.
Pizza Rides begin May 9. Ride leaders are still needed for later in the summer. The May Welcome Ride was cancelled due to lack of a ride leader.
New Business
- The City of Fremont asked FFBC to man a secure bike parking area at the May 26 Kite Festival and Bike Rodeo. The club declined as this was Memorial Day weekend and many members would be unavailable.
- The Board began discussion on the upcoming Club Picnic – date (possibly Sept. 16), location (perhaps Sand Wool Lake off Calaveras Rd.), catering (Armadillo Willy’s), member contribution ($5.00). No firm decisions were made except that the Board members will plan this event.
Primavera
John G. discussed several Primavera related matters:
- The Primavera Workers Dinner will be held Sunday, May 6;
- Logan High School scholarship contribution (in lieu of rent at the school) had been paid to the school and student applications were due May 4. Seven scholarships of $250 each were budgeted. If more than seven applications were received, John may need help evaluating them. The school will distribute the awards.
- John plans to write up suggestions for next year’s Primavera, such as order fewer t-shirts.
- He also announced that this was Dixie’s last year creating the graphics for the ride and he needed to retrieve the files from the T-shirt printer.
The meeting adjourned at 7:30 pm.
