FROM THE SUMMIT
For anyone who knows me know that I have always judiciously avoided the limelight. However, serving the last two years as your president has been quite an adventure and I can honestly say I have had the time of my life. During my two years at the helm, FFBC negotiated through two successful Primavera century's thanks to the support of many, many volunteers and the leadership of Sally Wilson, Jamie Hyams and John Goeschl and enjoyed two highly successful Cinderella training rides, with Joyce Tanaka, Jamie Hyams, Bonnie Kellogg and Jean O’Donnell at the helm, providing road training for nearly 200 new women cyclists. FFBC’s race team staged two exciting and entertaining Criteriums with the help of many club volunteers. And, out of necessity we transitioned from a traditional paper newsletter to an Internet newsletter generating a budget surplus.
It is now time I step down and permit someone with original and innovative dreams to take the reins. The Nominations Committee will be meeting sometime in early July to propose a slate of officers to take the controls for the 2007/2008 club year. Please consider how best you might be of assistance to FFBC in the coming year. Besides searching for a president, the Nominations Committee will be asked to find a vice president, treasurer and director at large. In addition to filling these positions on the Board, there will also be opportunities to lend a hand by volunteering to coordinate our 2008 Primavera, coordinate the 2008 Cinderella Training Rides, organize our 2007 holiday party, maintain our club locker as equipment manager and organize and submit our club newsletter for posting to the Internet. By helping to fill one of these positions you will be granted the opportunity to bring energy and new ideas into an organization that is developing into a well-known name in the community.
With your help, FFBC can continue to be a Bay Area bicycle club whose name is synonymous with esteemed leadership, warm and friendly members and exciting programs.
Remember the words of a very wise person who said, “Volunteers are not paid – not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.”
See you on the road.
