FROM THE SUMMIT

Autumn is my favorite time of the year.   I was born and raised on the East Coast, North Suburban Boston to be exact.  Since very early on in my childhood, I loved the change the world went through during this time of year.  Alright, it wasn't the whole world, but it was my whole world.  Summer was over and school was back in session.  Autumn in New England brought change to the foliage as well as cooler temperatures—a much needed relief from the heat and humidity of summer.

Autumn in Boston came not without its worries.  The month of October always brought the end of the Red Sox season and, on every occasion save one, postseason with the same "punch in the gut" feeling every year.  As a kid starting a new school year, I was sure to have a new teacher.  As I got older, instead of having just one teacher for a school year, I had many.  The classes got progressively harder.  In college as a nursing major, I started clinical rotations and working with patients for the first time.  Of course I got used to these changes, but occasionally it took some time.

This October also brings change to the very core of our organization.  There has been a changing of the guard so to speak.  The club and the race team have both elected new boards. With the change come new faces, new ideas and new energy.  We are the same people with whom you have ridden thousands of miles.  We have assumed additional roles to try to make this a better organization for everyone involved, including our community.

I am looking forward to my new role within the Fremont Freewheelers.  I always encourage new ideas and feedback.  I do need your help to continue what was started over twenty-five years ago.  I encourage members to be involved: lead a ride, help with the Primavera Century or Cinderella training rides, or even share photos of your favorite trip at the monthly meeting.  Every bit helps.  I wish to take this moment to thank everyone who has volunteered and taken on additional responsibilities as well as to thank the outgoing board and committees for getting us to where we are today.

Thank you for giving the new kid a chance.

Keep on riding,

Jeff G
