Thur. Nov 1 Thursday Morning Coffee Ride
9:00 AM 20-40 miles, 2-3M (M+, flats)
Come ride with a fun, welcoming group. We meet at Newark Java in the Raley's shopping center parking lot. Sometimes we just go to Union City via Nike Hill. More often, we cross the bridge and ride to Shoreline, Robert's Market, do "Margaret's Ride", or we get adventurous and find new routes. There are no route sheets so we regroup as necessary. We stop for coffee so bring money. Faster riders are welcome to head back early. Rain cancels, call if unsure.

Let's meet at the Bicycle Garage at 8:30 for an 8:45 start to an easy-going ride down Paseo Padre to South Grimmer. Then it's relatively flat down past Club Sport to the end of Fremont Blvd. We'll turn around and have a coffee break at a local Starbucks and decide whether to head straight back (for about 25 miles) or make our way over to Coyote Hills for a trip back on the trail (for about 38 miles). The shorter option will get us back before 11:30, the longer well before 12:30. Elevation gain is 465 feet. Rain or threat of rain cancels. Sat. Nov. 10 Alternate Palomares – CW Saturday
8:15 AM 35 miles, 4 B
This is one of my favorite off-season rides. We’ll start at the Niles Parking Lot—OR at the next lot to the east in downtown Niles in case the first lot is still closed--head up Mission Blvd. and work our way through the Hayward Hills to get to the back side of Palomares. Total climb will be around 2500 feet. The pace on Mission might be on the B+ side, but we will still have some regroups, so no one will be left back for very long. It should be a quick ride; last time we were done around 11:00. (Rain cancels, threat of rain does not.)

Sun. Nov. 11 Alternate Palomares – CCW Sunday
8:15 AM 35 miles, 4 B
What’s the opposite of creative? Am I brilliant—or just lazy? I like to think that I’m giving the Sunday-only riders a chance to experience Alternate Palomares, but in the opposite from my normal direction. Total climb for this ride will be—you guessed it!--around 2500 feet. Same start location as the Saturday ride. The pace on Mission might be on the B+ side, but we will still have some regroups, so no one will be left back for very long. (Rain cancels, threat of rain does not.)

Sun. Nov. 25 The Birds!
8:30 AM 24-30miles, 1 L
Low-Key, almost flat ride. Meet at the Niles Staging Area.
Occasionally, I need reminding that bicycles are not just for going fast or climbing steep hills. In that spirit please join me (Dale) and Jean O'Donnell for a quiet jaunt down the Alameda Creek Trail to look at birds.
I'm quite good at identifying birds -- they're the ones with feathers. The ones with hair, fur, or scales are something else. Jean O'Donnell is much better -- she can tell different bird species apart.
We'll ride quietly so as not to frighten wildlife away and stop often to look closer. Bring your binoculars and/or your camera. At the very least we'll ride to the end of the pavement on Alameda Creek Trail. If it hasn't rained for a week or so before the ride, we'll continue on the dirt path that follows the edge of the Bay and goes under the Dumbarton Bridge. (Yes, Virginia, you can ride a road bike on packed dirt, just not as fast.) If it has rained recently and the dirt path is too soft, we'll turn around and come back along the paved trail.
Rain closer than Mount Fuji cancels.
Co-led by Dale Blanchard and Jean O'Donnell.
