BOARD MEETING MINUTES

Members Meeting of the Fremont Freewheelers Bicycle Club
Date:   February 7, 2008

Call To Order And Approval Of Minutes:
Jeff called the meeting to order and the members voted to approve the January minutes as written.

REPORTS

Membership – Dave Ransom
Dave reported 183 registered members for 2008; more registrations are coming in.

Ride Coordinator – Jim Herman

  • reported on the successful ride/lunch/shopping discount event hosted by the Sunnyvale Sports Basement in January;
  • Reminded members that the March Ride Calendar has open spots, especially on weekends; and
  • Explained the new dual Ride Leader drawing procedures: the person whose name is drawn first, if in attendance, will be given the choice of a club jersey (old design) or a $25 gift certificate to REI.  The person whose name is drawn second will receive the other prize, or have the choice if the first winner is not present.
    • 1st drawing – Dave Epps
    • 2nd drawing – Kate Hellenga

Neither member was present, so by mutual members’ consent, Kate, a new Cinderella trainer was awarded the jersey and Epps, a long-term member, the gift certificate.

Race Team – Brian Meiers
Brian reported on Race Team activities including:

  • Early Bird training races are complete.
  • Planning with other local clubs for the 2008 race series is progressing.  An expo/health fair type event to accompany the races is planned.
  • The FFBC Criterium is set for June 7 in the same downtown location as last year and is the last race of the series.
  • Race promotions volunteer coordinator is Ed Falsken.
  • The Team would like to develop a Master Team (age 55+) to ride and train together.

Clothing Sales – Ed Tanaka

  • Ed had jerseys, jackets, vests, arm warmers and lots of socks available for purchase.
  • Ed also announced that the newly designed club jerseys should arrive by the next meeting.

Donations Committee – Jim Herman

  • Jim Herman invited all members to make suggestions for recipients and division of the $2,000 budgeted for donations to outside organizations. 
  • The Donations Committee meets February 19 at 7:00 pm at Mission Coffee.  Donation awards will be voted on at the March members meeting.

Member Outreach – Molly Michelfelder

  • Molly Mitchelfelder reported that long-term member, Brenda Gambina, is ill.  Brenda can be contacted at bgambina@sbcglobal.net.

Primavera

  • Joyce Tanaka reports that registration is open on active.com.
  • The Race Team plans to paint arrows on the roads for the various Primavera routes.  Please contact Todd Tracy for any painting/arrow issues.

Food and Presentation

  • Jeff Girard had pizza delivered for the break prior to Ken Lew and Joyce Tanaka’s slide show on their Santa Barbara to Mexico ride.
  • Beverages left over from the Cinderella Rodeo were provided by Florence Silver who assured members that the Odwalla drinks had been continuously refrigerated and she was NOT going to take any home!

Call to Order and Approval of Minutes
Jeff called the meeting to order and the Board voted to approve the January minutes as written.

REPORTS

Ride Coordinator – Jim Herman

  • February is the first month the Club will have two Ride Leader Reward drawings at the Members Meeting.  The person whose name is drawn first, if in attendance, will have the choice of a club jersey (old design) or a $25 gift certificate to REI.  The person whose name is drawn second will receive the other prize, or have the choice if the first winner is not present.
  • The January ride/lunch/shopping discount hosted by the Sunnyvale Sports Basement was a success despite the threat of rain.
  • The Board had questions about the Club’s insurance coverage and Dan Lucchesi agreed to check with the insurance company on whether the upcoming Pigeon Point 2-day ride requires special event coverage and if separate directors’ liability insurance is needed.  He will also ask for a complete copy of the policy.

Treasurer’s Report – Jean O’Donnell

    • Checking:  $8,078  
    • CD1:  $10,572
    • CD2:  $10,620
  • One CD is up for renewal soon and the Board agreed to let it renew automatically;
  • A $150 donation for the Primavera was received from Newark Java;
  • Income from the Cinderella training program is $1,480;
  • 2008 membership income, to date:  $2,787.

Race Team – Brian Meiers

  • Early Bird training races are complete.
  • Planning is progressing with other clubs for the race series.  They are planning an expo/health fair type event to accompany the races and to be expanded upon in future years.  The FFBC Criterium is set for June 7 in the same downtown location as last year and is the last race of the series.
  • Race promotions volunteer coordinator is Ed Falsken.
  • Team members plan to paint the Primavera route arrows on the roads April 5.
  • New Race Team kits should arrive soon.  They are the same basic design and colors as last year with the addition of the title sponsor’s name on the front.

Donations Committee – Jim Herman

  • The Donations Committee will meet February 19 at 7:00 pm at Mission Coffee.  Suggestions for donations should be submitted to Jim Herman.

Old Business

  • Jeff Girard reported that the business cards arrived with FFBC misprinted as “FFB”; they have been reordered.

New Business:

  • Jeff reported that Wei Sun sent a draft mock-up design for a new front page for the FFBC website.  Jeff’s fiancé is also working on this design.
