REPORTS
Treasurer – Jean O’Donnell
Reported bank account balances:
Checking: $ 8,382
CD1: $10,597
CD2: $10,655
Race Team – Jason Sage
The race season is in full swing and new kits have arrived.
Title sponsor, Sugar CRM, informed the Team they are unable to contribute $12,000 initially targeted for the race series, as their venture capital funds cannot be used for that purpose. The Team is now looking at hosting a Twilight Race Series, six mid-week evening races for beginners and experienced riders. These races are unofficial, low key and low cost.
Membership - Dave Ransom
Reports 140 new and renewed memberships have arrived.
Old Business
Jean relayed that H&R Block completed the FFBC tax return but would not take a Club check.
FFBC business cards arrived and are available to all members for distribution.
Dan Lucchesi reported that he contacted the Club’s insurance company and asked about coverage for fee-based rides and Directors & Officers liability insurance. In short, a club-member-only ride in which a fee is charged, is covered under the existing policy. If the general public is invited and a fee is charged, it is considered a special event requiring an additional premium.
Ride Leader Training Program/Major Taylor Cycling Club resources
Wynn Kageyama presented an update of his FFBC Ride Leader Training Program project using resources offered by the defunct Major Taylor Cycling Club. He ran into a problem obtaining these resources because of FFBC’s tax-exempt status and is looking at alternatives.
FFBC website remodel
Wei Sun presented a remodeled version of the FFBC website to the Board that he and Jeff’s fiancé designed. He explained the results of the site use survey he conducted earlier and how the new design took those needs and uses into account – less scrolling, prominent Ride Calendar, graphics reflecting both recreational cycling and racing and a suggested purpose statement. Further discussion was tabled pending additional technical review.
New Business
Bike To Work Day activities
Wynn K. presented ideas for two Club projects for Bike to Work Day (May 15) and offered to manage the activities. The Board voted and approved these events:
- Invite non-regular riders to a few 20-mile rides in April and early May to prepare for Bike To Work Day. He plans to ask local bike shops to perform free bike inspections.
- Host an After-Bike-To-Work-Day barbeque with a ride starting and ending at Central Park.
New Club jerseys for sale
Ed Tanaka brought supplies of both men’s and women’s sizes for sale at the meeting. Sizes run small, so try yours on first.
The meeting adjourned at 7:10 pm with pizza, drinks and cookies available during the break.
PRESENTATIONS
Florence Silver introduced two members of American Association of University Women, Randy Fewel and Janine Vegh who presented the 2008 Worldly Wanda Tour de Fremont bicycle ride to be held March 29, starting from Central Park. The 25 and 50-mile recreational rides will benefit the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund, providing scholarships to women in need of legal services due to discrimination in the workplace. Registration for the ride is online at www.active.com.
