Members Meeting of Fremont Freewheelers Bicycle Club

CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Jeff Girard called the meeting to order and asked for a motion and approval of the April minutes. The members approved the minutes.

REPORTS

Membership – Dave Ransom
Reported that the Club currently has 252 paid memberships

Ride Coordinator – Jim Herman
  • Two Ride Leader drawings using a new method of assigning computer-generated random numbers to the names and having members draw numbered poker chips from a bag.
    Winner #1:   Tim & Robin O’Hara
    Winner #2:  Lori Sommer
  • Jeff Girard will be ride leader for May’s Wednesday Pizza Rides.  See the Ride Calendar for dates, times and location.
  • Pizza Ride leaders are needed for June and July.

Race Team – Jason Sage

  • The Los Gatos Cats Hill race will be held Saturday, May 10.  This annual event is exciting and well attended.
  • Jason displayed the Race Team’s new custom Cannondale frame sporting red and blue flames on a white background.  Each frame costs approx. $1,000. 

Member Outreach – Molly Michelfelder
Cards sent to new parents, Mark & Shirley Davis, and to new grandparents, Mary Lou Hicks and Joyce & Ed Tanaka.

NEW & OLD BUSINESS 
Clothing Sales at the Primavera:  Ed Tanaka

  • All extra Primavera jerseys have been sold. 
  • Most of the previous years’ Primavera T-shirts were sold for $1; the rest were donated to a hospital.
  • Club clothing with the old design was discounted and sold (jersey $25; vests & jackets $25; arm warmers $10).  Some pieces are still available for sale.

Pigeon Point Ride – Dale Blanchard
Reported there are still openings for this 2-day ride on the first full weekend in June.  The $30 fee includes dinner, breakfast and a bunk at the Pigeon Point Hostel.  Contact Dale or Jeff Girard for more information.  Distance each day is 65-70 miles.

Bike to Work Day – Wynn Kageyama
Wynn presented his Bike to Work program which includes local training rides held the first three Saturdays in May to introduce inexperienced riders to riding on city streets, news releases to run in the Fremont Bulletin, the Tri-City Voice and the Argus newspapers, and free bike checks at local bike shops.

Fund Raising Ride – Jeff Girard
Announced he will ride in his mother’s name as a Virtual Rider in support of The Brain Tumor Society in the Berkeley Hills Death Ride.  The actual event takes place in Boston.  Donations are welcome.   The meeting adjourned at 8:00   PRESENTATION   Jeff Girard presented Robert Rayburn of the East Bay Bicycle Coalition (EBBC) with FFBC donations of $250 for EBBC’s legal fund and $250 for their bicycling street skills classes.  Mr. Rayburn thanked the Club and presented slides and a program on EBBC’s history, goals and successes since 1972 in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. 

PRESENTATION

Jeff Girard called the meeting to order and asked for a motion and approval of the April minutes.  The Board voted to approve the minutes.

REPORTS

Ride Coordinator – Jim Herman

The May calendar is open for ride additions.  Wynn K. listed three rides aimed at beginners preparing for Bike to Work Day.   The last ride includes a barbeque at Central Park in Fremont.

Treasurer – Jean O’Donnell

  • Account Balances:    CD#1:  $10,696      CD#2: $10,653     Checking: $13,582
  • Primavera registrations totaled $20,625.  After expenses submitted to date, the net profit is $10,062.  Expenses still outstanding include Costco, SAG support and Logan High School.
  • The current profit from the 2008 Cinderella Training Ride program is $502 with a few expenses still outstanding.
  • Jean revised the 2007-2008 budget, correcting expenses relating to the Race Team instead of FFBC.

Race Team – Jason Sage

  • Jason presented a current inventory of Race Team clothing and a list of team members who have paid and not paid for team kits.
  • The Team is making preliminary plans for this summer’s Criterium although Team sponsor, Sugar CRM, has not yet made a monetary commitment for this event.
  • The Twilight Series of two races on each of four Thursday nights during the last summer are also in the planning stages.
  • The Board discussed the pending litigation matter of Cornelius Lopes v. FFBC, et al. and voted to hire a local attorney to assist in the Club’s defense.

NEW BUSINESS

The Board briefly considered whether the 2009 Primavera route will require alterations to accommodate Calaveras Road’s pending closure during reservoir construction work.  This will require additional information.
