We would like to gather club photos from any previous rides and/or activities of club functions.  You can burn these to CD's, or send via email in high resolution quality, or transfer to USB thumb drive (which will be returned to you).  Mike Northrup has generously "volunteered" to organize this presentation for us. He will need some time before the 21st to put this together, so would appreciate receiving them soon.


2009 Get Ready to Race Clinic

SATURDAY JANUARY 3rd at 4pm and 7pm

This clinic will compliment the 5-week Early Bird Criterium Training Series beginner and advanced mentoring clinics of January 4, 11, 18, 25, and February 1, 2009.  This material applies to all bicycle racers, triathletes, duathletes, and all athletes considering bicycle racing.  We will talk and demonstrate skills, tactics, and drills that you can use to help you and your teammates race more effectively and have more fun.  Additionally, you will be able to meet with and talk to local teams and coaches.  Our goal is to better prepare you for the exciting sport of bicycle racing! 

Presented by Road Magazine coaching columnist Scot Saifer and Sarah Bamberger (Cheerwine) plus your 2009 Early Bird Team: Laurel Green (Wenzel Coaching); Laurie Fenech (2006 and 2007 Early Bird Advance Skills Coordinator); Alan Atha (Cycling Systems Coaching); and Larry Nolan (2009 USAC Western Regional Camp Coach and Director)

4pm and 7pm talks at the offices of RoseRyan, Inc.  35473 Dumbarton Court, Newark, CA 94560  Just across the freeway from the Early Bird course.  There is limited seating so please reserve your spot now.  If the 4pm and 7pm clinics sell out we will add a 1pm clinic as well.  Tickets will only be sold at the door if we still have spots open.

Directions:

- From Palo Alto take 84 east and across the Dumbarton Bridge.  Exit at Newark Blvd./ Ardenwood Blvd..  Turn right on Jarvis after the stop (smile for the camera) and right on Dumbarton Court.  The offices are on your left in the far left corner.

- From Oakland of San Jose take 880 and then head west at the 84/ Dumbarton Bridge exit.  Take the Newark Blvd./ Ardenwood Blvd. exit and turn left at the first light.  Turn right on Jarvis after the stop and right on Dumbarton Court.  The offices are on your left in the far left corner.

If you have time and want to preview the Early Bird course, follow Ardenwood Blvd. north and turn left at Kaiser, left on Dumbarton Circle and you are at corner 3.  Follow the sweeping turn and turn right on Campus Drive and you are at corner 1.  Turn right after the stop sign and you are at corner 2. 2200 meters for this flat and fast course.


2009 Early Bird Criterium Training Series

Promoted by Velo Promo & Golden Chain Cyclists. Under USCF rules & permit 
Dates: Sundays, January 4,11,18,25 and Feb 1
Location: Fremont, CA, same as past 20 years.
Registration: Opens at 8 a.m. at Dumbarton & Campus, Ardenwood Industrial Park. Closes 15 minutes before each race's start.
Directions: From Palo Alto, take Hwy 84 across the Dumbarton Bridge towards Fremont and take the first exit (Paseo Padre Parkway). Go north one block  to turn right on Dumbarton Circle. From Hwy 880, take Hwy 84 west to the same exit (Paseo Padre/Thornton) and go north (right) one block to Dumbarton Circle.
Course: 2.2km flat clockwise loop of good pavement. Three 90 degree right hand turns, one large sweeping turn.  Portapotties, botts dots, no drinking water.

     9:30 Advanced strategies and tactics clinic *
          * Perfect for experienced racers, as well as those that want to learn more.

     Noon  Early Bird Criterium Mentoring clinic*
          * Perfect for brand new racers, as well as those that want to work on fundamentals.

Notes: Jan 4, 11, 18, and 25 are training races only, no placings.

Cat 5s can get two races of credit towards their upgrade to Cat 4 for each Early Bird session.  (1 race credit for participating in one of the clinics and 1 for the race/race simulation). Attending all 5 Early Bird events and doing one clinic and the race/race simulation each week will qualify you for an upgrade to Cat 4.

Cat 4 riders can get 1 upgrade point for attending the advanced Skills/tactics clinic each week up to a maximum of 5 upgrade points.

Cat 3 riders can get 1 upgrade point for attending the advanced skills/tactics clinic up to a maximum of 3 upgrade points.

You will be racing for placings on February 1. We may split fields for safety reasons.  Since the first four weeks are training races you might get to practice racing in a neutralized field.

Entry: Event fee is $16 each week. The fee covers any and all participation during the day. Insurance and NCNCA surcharges are included.  Enter day of event only.  One new USCF form each week. USCF 2009 annual ($60) or one-day ($5 at the first fou races, $10 at Feb. 1 race) license required, available at the races (or annual is on-line at www.usac.org – be sure to print a receipt to bring to Early Birds).  Race numbers will be provided.  You can use the same number each week. No late fee.  No unattached fee.
