BOARD MEETING MINUTES
Members Meeting of Fremont Freewheelers Bicycle Club
Date: May 7th, 2009
Time: 7:30 pm
Location: Silliman Center, Newark CA
Call to Order: Jeff Girard called the meeting to Order.
Membership Report: Dave Ransom reported 367 members and 252 memberships.
Ride Coordinator: Jim Herman reported the ride calendar is open for May, ride leaders are needed.
Treasurer’s Report: Jean O’Donnell reported bank account balances 2 CD’s and Primavera Income.
Primavera: Event was a huge success – overall feedback indicates everyone enjoyed the ride. The ride was great! Date discussion was tabled for Century rides. We are currently working with ACTC to determine the best approach to next year’s ride date and how to better make a date selection on the Club calendar. We need additional SAG support for next years event. We are currently staffed for 800, for a quality ride we need to add support. Calaveras Road work for 2010 – there are concerns that should be addressed by Oct. ’09. We should be prepared to not use Calaveras for 2010. There is a small quantity left of the Jersey’s.
Ride Leader Awards: March Winner Vanessa McDonald $50.00 gift certificate, February Winner Ken Goldman $50.00 gift certificate to Bicycle Garage.
City of Fremont: Bert Silverman received a proclamation on behalf of the City at a recent City Council Meeting. EBBC – Bicycle advocacy group certificate awarded to FFBC – recognized Bert Silverman as a promoter – TAC Michael Graaf. Month of May bicycling will be recognized in the Bay Area – Bike to Work Date May 14th is being promoted to encourage cycling as a method of commuting. Certificate awarded by Bob Wasserman and handed off to Jeff Girard. www.ebbc.org to sign up for “Bike to Work Day” online.
Presentation: Cycling Safety – presented by Wynn Kageyama. Smart Cycling Program individuals, members of clubs, members of racing teams. Road, from novice to seasoned, the 80/20 rule applies. Mountain bikers, many lack cycling skills. Adults commuting, daytime and evening commutes. Recreational. Traffic Skills 101A+ and 101B+ class – Taught by a highly qualified and certified cycling instructor and coach. Learn correct cycling behaviors. In as little as 20 hours of hands-on coaching – accidents may be reduced by 85%. Cycling skill improvements – cycling with confidence. Cyclist training goal – decrease falls to exceed current national goals. Current goal is to sign paperwork with the City of Fremont week of May 11th.
