Jan’s First Tour

Early in July Jan Green sent me an email asking if I was aware of any two-three day rides scheduled for the week of July 12. I wasn't, but told her we could probably put together something. She very cautiously said "Go ahead." And thus was born "Jan's First Tour."

Participants: Two really, really old guys, Ken Goldman and Dale Blanchard.  One young chick, Jan Green

Day 1: Fremont to Pigeon Point Lighthouse - 54.0 miles
Day 2: Pigeon Point to Monterey - 77.3 miles
Day 3: Monterey to San Juan Bautista - 61.2 miles
Day 4: San Juan Bautista to Fremont - 76.9 miles

Sometimes you never really know how funny-looking you are until Jan looks at you and then starts laughing out loud!

After years of searching Jan finally finds her king -- at Costanoa's, which wasn't where I thought it was, resulting in another situation for which I'll probably never be forgiven. Jan's interpretation:  Situation = hill twice (needlessly) instead of once; forgiven = after Dale bought me breakfast!

Sometimes when two really, really old guys travel with a young chick, they have trouble determining what kind of chair to put out for the young chick. (We may have misunderestimated on this one.)

It's quite a long ways to anywhere. Are you sure we're not lost...again?

WARNING! If you ever tour with Jan, never, ever let her have more than one cup of coffee at breakfast. If you do, this is the only view of her you'll have until lunch. (And you'll hear things like, "How am I supposed to draft if you guys can't keep up.)

Jan fell in love with this sign thinking it marked the top of yet another long climb. This one turned out to be based on false premises: the real top was still a ways up the road.
