BOARD MEETING MINUTES
FFBC BOARD MEETING
DATE: October 1, 2009
ATTENDANCE
Gary Smith (President), Nikki Grimes (VP), Iris Goldman (Treasurer- incoming nominee), Lori Sommer (Secretary), Karen White (Director-at-Large), Jorge Gildelatorre (Ride Coordinator), Garry Birch (Race Team President/Club Liaison), Jean O’Donnell (Treasurer-outgoing)
CALL TO ORDER / MINUTES
Gary Smith called the Board Meeting to order at 6:30PM and presented the agenda. New Board Members were welcomed and introduced. September meeting minutes were unavailable for approval. The Board Meeting adjourned at 7:30PM.
RIDE COORDINATOR REPORT
Jorge Gildelatorre stated he met with outgoing Ride Coordinator, Jim Herman, to review the process of listing rides in the calendar, and identify the dates Jim used to send requests and reminders, etc.
The Board decided to continue ride leader incentives in order to encourage ride leaders to post rides on the calendar. The monthly drawings and annual awarding of club clothing to ride leaders based on the number of posted rides led will continue.
To reduce ride leader costs (especially for those leading a ride or two a week), copies of FFBC Club Sign-In Forms will be available for pickup beginning at the November meeting. Gary Smith will coordinate.
RACE TEAM REPORT
Garry Birch requested a sponsorship sum of $3100 for 2010, same as 2009. The Raceteam will not request a loan for 2010. See General Meeting minutes below.
NEW BUSINESS – MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
Wynn Kageyama proposed an early-bird membership idea for approval and noted he needed a quick Board decision to order a size kit and meet the timeline. He has designed an eye-catching jersey and advertisement copy. Wynn presented jersey manufacturing cost information from three vendors. At Interbike, he was able to find a clothing vendor selling cycling apparel at surprising low costs while maintaining quality. He also gave costs estimates for shipping, advertising in the Penny Saver, printing postcards (to be mailed to past and present members as well as Primavera riders in the Fremont area) and postage. Discussion ensued regarding the need for an additional club jersey, the attractiveness of the jersey design, the time delay between asking for money and jersey delivery, cost of early bird membership, etc. He believes that the drive would be self-funding and even generate significant revenue, but a final price for early-bird membership nor how many members would have to join in order to pay for the drive was not presented. Due to time constraints, the Board cut short the discussion and decided to postpone conversation to a later date TBD or via email. Iris suggested we simply offer a discount as incentive to join early.
Update: Wynn is withdrawing his Early Bird Membership Campaign proposal.
NEW BUSINESS - MISCELLANEOUS
Gary Smith announced the good news that FFBC members Dale Blanchard and Steve Wilson will both have pictures in the new Fremont Bikeway Map. Congratulations!
TREASURER REPORT
Jean O’Donnell reported the balances for the three accounts: Bank of America Checking, Bank of America CD and Fremont Bank CD. She noted the Race Team recently repaid last year’s loan in full.
After some discussion, the Board decided to make the actual account balances available only to club members rather than posting publicly in the newsletter. The solution will be forthcoming.
2009-2010 Budget: Jean presented and proposed the Budget for October 2009-2010. The discussion was cut short due to time constraints and another meeting will be scheduled to finalize the information in time for the November meeting.
Update: Tuesday, October 13 at 7:30 PM, Mission Coffee. The Board discussed various aspects of the budget including new information from the raceteam. Integrate Performance Fitness will not be continuing team sponsorship. The raceteam is planning a membership drive to increase raceteam membership to 50 members by mid-year. The board also decided to hold a raffle to promote early-bird registration rather than a dues discount.
FFBC GENERAL MEETING
DATE: April 2, 2009

MEMBERSHIP REPORT
Dave Ransom reported 438 members and 297 memberships.
RIDE COORDINATOR REPORT
Jorge Gildelatorre reported Jim had completed the October ride calendar. Jorge will soon send out a request for ride leaders to lead the After-Thanksgiving Day ride in addition to regular club rides to fill the November calendar.
TREASURER REPORT
Jean O’Donnell reported the balances for the three accounts: Bank of America Checking, Bank of America CD and Fremont Bank CD. She noted the Race Team has repaid last year’s loan in full.
RACE TEAM REPORT
Garry Birch showed the red, black and white Team Integrate/FFBC (powered by Chipotle) jersey and proudly announced they had a successful 2009 season. They added a women’s team for the first time, which includes Section 8 semi-pros. Team Integrate/FFBC currently has 35 active members (15 inactive). They were able to pay for race kits and race entries at target events for some members. They had three State Champions, 10 1st place finishes and 20-30 podium finishes this season. For 2010, they might have two junior racers. Due to 2010 budget constraints, support for the racers may be applied more unilaterally. They plan to do three promotions (Altamont team time trials, Calaveras individual TT and NCNCA Championship team TT or a mass start criterium) and evening time trials. The race team is hosting rides open to all club members during the month of October.
PRIMAVERA
Dave Ransom reported the Primavera date is the 4th Sunday in April, one week after the Tierra Bella and the Sea Otter.
ELECTIONS
Gary took nominations to fill open board positions. Iris Goldman was nominated to fill the position of Treasurer and Garry Birch was nominated to be the FFBC Race Team Liaison. Both nominations were seconded and both candidates were elected based on a show of hands.
MISCELLANEOUS
Wynn Kageyama announced his Beginning Road Cycling class at the Castro Valley Adult School is full; however, he is also teaching a FREE Bike Safety Class (ages 14 and up) here in Fremont. It is three hours long and sponsored by the East Bay Bicycle Coalition.

The story is about Graham Obree, a young man trying to break the world hour record. The conclusion of the film will be shown at the next meeting. Thank you to Marcella, Jean and Lori for providing snacks.
