FFBC BOARD MEETING

DATE:  November, 2009

ATTENDANCE
Gary Smith (President), Iris Goldman (Treasurer), Lori Sommer (Secretary), Karen White (Director-at-Large), Jorge Gildelatorre (Ride Coordinator), Garry Birch (Race Team President/Club Liaison)

CALL TO ORDER / MINUTES
Gary Smith called the Board Meeting to order at 6:30PM and presented the agenda.  October meeting minutes were approved.  The Board Meeting adjourned at 7:30PM.

PRIMAVERA REPORT
Jan Green discussed the committee’s plans to purchase new directional signs (hand-painted, 16”x24”, route color-coded, with a lacquer finish) for the Primavera as part of reinvesting some profit to improve the ride experience.  They may also purchase flags for SAG vehicles. 

She also said the new date of the Primavera would be Sunday, April 11, 2010.  They will use the same jersey design as last year, but a decision to change colors is still pending.  Jan also mentioned that if 10 FFBC members volunteer at Ed Levin, the park would waive the $500 fee. 

Garry Birch mentioned he would discuss the possibility of having Chipotle provide the after-ride meal.  He will check to see if they would do it as a donation or at a reduced cost and get back to Jan.

EARLY BIRD RENEWAL
The board discussed plans to offer raffle prizes to members that renew their FFBC membership by December 31, 2009.  Gary Smith will contact members by email with the details.

TREASURER REPORT
Iris reported the balances for the three accounts: Bank of America Checking, Bank of America CD and Fremont Bank CD will post them in the Yahoo group for members to access.

All Board members approved the 2009-2010 budget.

RIDE COORDINATOR REPORT
Jorge Gildelatorre said the glitch with posting the calendar on the website was resolved.  Everything is going well and there are no issues.  The FFBC Race Team will host a ride from the Sports Basement on December 12, 2009 (including a 20% discount for shopping). 

RACE TEAM REPORT
Garry Birch stated the race team has started a new marketing campaign.  They have printed posters and plan to deliver them to numerous coffee and bike shops as well as fitness centers.  Garry handed out stacks of FFBC Race Team business cards to members and encouraged them to take part in the campaign.

HOLIDAY PARTY
Conni Smith announced information about the holiday party planned for Sunday, December 13 at the Sunol Jazz Café.  The club will subsidize part of the cost of the dinner; cost to members/guests is $13.  Children are welcome.  The cost is $6/child (under 12 years).

BIKE BOX
Karen inquired about the rules of lending out the bike box to members.  She will check with Mike Northrup regarding guidelines.

FFBC GENERAL MEETING

CALL TO ORDER / MINUTES
Gary Smith called the General Meeting to order at 7:35PM.  He welcomed members and asked three new members to introduce themselves.  September meeting minutes were approved.  The General Meeting concluded at 9:00PM.

TREASURER REPORT
Iris reported the balances for the three accounts: Bank of America Checking, Bank of America CD and Fremont Bank CD will post them in the Yahoo group for members to access.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT
Dave Ransom reported 442 members and 300 memberships.  He has received 4 membership renewals for 2010.
 
RIDE COORDINATOR REPORT
Nothing new to report.

RACE TEAM REPORT
Garry Birch stated the race team has started a new marketing campaign.  They have printed posters and plan to deliver them to numerous coffee and bike shops as well as fitness centers.  Garry handed out stacks of FFBC Race Team business cards to members and encouraged them to take part in the campaign.

Garry Birch reminded members that that they were hosting a ride at the Velodrome on Sunday which is open to everyone.  Bring pedals, shoes, helmet and $6 for parking.  Bikes are available for rental.

Larry Nolan is mentoring on some team rides.

HOLIDAY PARTY
Conni Smith announced information about the holiday party planned for Sunday, December 13 at the Sunol Jazz Café.  There will be an appetizer, buffet dinner and dessert as well as a no-host wine and beer bar.  The cost is $13 per person.  Children are welcome ($6/child under 12 years).  Molly Michelfelder will host the white-elephant gift exchange.

EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION
Gary Smith discussed some of the details of the prize drawing for members renewing before the end of the year.

BUDGET
Gary Smith presented the 2009-2010 budget to members.  All members approved the budget without discussion.

ENTERTAINMENT
While the projector was being set up for the conclusion of The Flying Scotsman, FFBC Race Team Member, Richard Brockie told a personal story about Graeme Obree.  He highly recommended reading Obree’s autobiography (personally written by Obree).  Richard later put out a link on the Yahoo groups.
