FROM THE SUMMIT
If you like riding in the rain, January was your kind of month. I’m generally a fair weather rider, and I haven’t logged many miles so far this year. On the bright side, our Cinderella Training rides and Progressive Ride Series are under way, and we already have our first 2010 Primavera registrants. All these things are made possible by the many volunteers who consistently step forward to help our club.
We need to make sure our club rides are safe for all participants. Some accidents that happen on group rides are avoidable, and we can avoid them by riding safely, paying attention and communicating with our fellow riders. We need to avoid making unexpected moves that may surprise a rider behind and cause him/her to fall. We also need to pay attention to what riders ahead of us are doing. We need to make sure that intersections are clear before we cross. Some riders take chances that most of us would not take. If we concentrate on riding more safely, we can reduce the number of accidents on club rides. Even if we have only one fewer accident per year, it’s worth the effort to make it happen.
I’m traveling to Kauai this month, and I’m looking forward to some surfing, golf and maybe a little cycling in the warm sunshine.
I hope to see you on a ride soon…when it’s not raining.
