RACE TEAM
Garry Birch reported:
- The Race Team is using the $1,000 grant from Chevron Corporation to buy a 10’ x 10” canopy inscribed with “Team Fremont” and the FFBC insignia. This canopy is for general club use.
- Six new juniors (under 18 category) recently joined the Race Team; students from Mission San Jose High School bike club have expressed interest in the Team.
- 2011 kits will be ordered soon.
TREASURER REPORT
Terri Yi reported:
- New balances for the three accounts: Bank of America checking, Bank of America CD and Fremont Bank CD. Terri will post them on the Yahoo group for member access and review.
- Terri contacted Leslie Hartley, FFBC’s new CPA. Hartley will prepare taxes due February 15, 2011.
- Director and Officer insurance has been purchased for 2011.
- Payment on general liability insurance is due soon. The amount is based on the number of club members so Terri requests members to renew their memberships by the end of January.
MISCELLANEOUS
- The Board discussed new, less expensive locations for the club meetings. More information next month.
- PRIMAVERA: Gary reviewed Brad Baldwin’s suggestions for a modified Primavera this Spring or early Summer. This event could be limited to a single100k route, two rest stops and no dinner at the end. After a lengthy discussion, the Board agreed to support Brad’s plan and to open additional discussion at the following Member’s meeting.
- It’s been difficult to recruit new Board members the last few years. Gary requested Board members who do not plan to continue in their position next year to start promoting their positions early.
The meeting adjourned at 7:35PM.
FFBC GENERAL MEETING
CALL TO ORDER / MINUTES
Gary Smith called the General Meeting to order at 7:40PM. Meeting minutes for November were approved. No new members or visitors were present.
TREASURER REPORT
Treasurer Terri Yi reported balances for the three accounts: Bank of America Checking, Bank of America CD and Fremont Bank CD. She will post them in the Yahoo group for member access and review.
MEMBERSHIP REPORT
Vanessa McDonald reported the current number of members (97) and memberships (71). Members were reminded to renew their memberships for 2011 as soon as possible.
RACE TEAM
In addition to the Race Team items mentioned in the Board Minutes, Garry Birch reported that there are currently about 32 Team members, that Team rides will continue through the Winter (even in the rain) and that the Early Bird rides begin Sunday, January 9 and continue through February.
RIDE COORDINATOR
Steve Bell won the Ride Leader Incentive drawing for November and Sandra King won for December. Each will receive a $25 Bicycle Garage gift certificate.
MISCELLANEOUS
Cinderella Training Ride series begins Saturday, January 15 with an introductory maintenance checkup rodeo followed by a short ride.
PRIMAVERA
Gary Smith presented Brad Baldwin’s suggestion of a modified Primavera with one route and fewer rest stops. There was much positive discussion among members, including Becky Deneven’s question about the number of registrations for the 100 mile route v. the 65 mile route. She questioned whether an abbreviated Primavera offering only the shorter 65-mile route would be enough of a draw to make a profit. Vanessa McDonald added that holding the event at a date later than the usual day in April might bring in more 100 mile registrations as riders would be better conditioned by the later date. The members agreed to support Brad’s decision.
PROGRAM
Dean Peters of Leopard Cycles presented four bikes with a variety of Leopard carbon fiber frames. He discussed grades of carbon, attributes of the various frames, ride quality, carbon coatings, custom designs and paint schemes and the ultimate racer’s consideration, “how heavy is the paint.”
Cycle Pros in Pleasanton is currently promoting Leopard bikes and has a variety available ready for test rides. Leopard frames are available to FFBC members at 50% of retail. Leopard Cycles will also provide components purchased at the same time, at wholesale + 10% + S/H. Peters can be reached at dean@leopardcycles.com.
