FROM THE SUMMIT

IWe held the Primavera last month.  89 riders, 49 of whom were non-members, participated.  I talked to a number of them at the finish, and they were happy with the support that they offered and that we held a Primavera after all.  Andy Sass did a great job of organizing the ride in a short time, and a number of club members volunteered and made it a great day for the riders.  Please look for Andy’s story of the 2011 Primavera in this issue of the Spoke’n Truth.

May is an eventful month.  It marks the beginning of FFBC Pizza Rides for 2011.  Thank you to Tim and Robin for leading the May Pizza Rides.
The Amgen Tour of California also takes place this month.  If you’re a fan of professional bike racing, the Tour of California offers you a chance to see some of your favorite racers up close.  I’m sure some of you will be out there watching them climb Sierra Road and making it look easier than it is for most of us.  Whether you go out and see the racers in person or not, you can see daily coverage on Versus.  There also may still be opportunities to volunteer at the Tour of California.  For information on volunteer opportunities, please see the following web site:

Memorial Day is this month, and the three day weekend gives many of us an extra day to ride.  I’m sure some of you will go to the Great Western Bike Rally.  Whether you go to the GWBR or stay closer to home, enjoy the Memorial Day weekend!

I will be spending the first week of May in Kauai.  I don’t plan to do any riding there.  I expect to play some golf, enjoy the beaches and relax in the sun.  I look forward to riding with the club when I return.  Try not to be too jealous when you see my tan.
