BOARD MEETING MINUTES

FFBC BOARD MEETING
LOCATION: Fremont Cultural Arts Center
DATE:  May 10, 2011

ATTENDANCE
Gary Smith (President), Dale Bodtker (Vice President), Terri Yi (Treasurer), Conni Smith (Secretary), Jorge Gildelatorre (Ride Coordinator), Garry Birch (Race Team Representative)

CALL TO ORDER / MINUTES
Gary Smith called the meeting to order at 6:35pm.  Minutes for the April meeting were approved.

TREASURER REPORT
Terri Yi reported:

  • Budget:
    • Terri revised the 2010-2011 budget to more accurately reflect the year without income and expenses from the club sponsored Primavera.  Although this adjustment results in an expected $7,320 loss, she doubts it will be that much as the Club has reduced expenses in other areas.   She will post the new budget in the Files section of the Yahoo Group.
    • One large expense line item is $2500 for the storage locker, due at yearend.  It may be worthwhile to look for other storage locations.
  • The latest balances for the three accounts (Bank of America checking, Bank of America CD and Fremont Bank CD) will be posted on the Yahoo Group for member access and review.

RACE TEAM
Garry Birch reported on Race Team accomplishments and activities:

  • Successful Calaveras time trial last month had 226 entries;
  • Brian Zigler crashed recently;
  • The Club expressed concern for Mike Cosgrove’s illness;
  • The next team event is the District/State Championship time trial on July 9;
  • The Race Team is promoting club/team rides from the Sports Basement in Sunnyvale on Saturday, July 23.  The store will offer FFBC members a 20% discount on purchases and will provide refreshments after the rides.  Check the Ride Calendar for times and rides.

MISCELLANEOUS
Gary Smith led the following discussions:
Board members reported their intentions to continue on the Board for the 2011-2012 year.  The following positions will be open:  President, Vice President and Ride Coordinator.  The Director-at-Large was not in attendance and his decision is unknown.  Gary will list the open positions on the Yahoo Group.  A nominating committee will be needed.
The “ffbc.org” domain name is up for renewal.  The Board agreed to renew it for 5 more years.  Gary will let Mark Davis know.
East Bay Regional Park District invited FFBC to participate in their June 11 “Healthy Parks – Healthy People” event at Quarry Lakes.  They suggested the Club host a table with information/handouts and perhaps organize a bike ride during the event.  The Board discussed ride organization and what materials could be distributed.  No decision was made on Club participation.
There will be no Board or Members meetings in June.

The meeting adjourned at 7:25 pm.

OPEN DISCUSSION

  • No program was planned for this meeting.
  • The Board and Members presented Andy Sass with a gift certificate for his initiative and superb leadership and organization of the Primavera club ride in April.
  • A pizza party is planned for Sunday, May 22 at Shakers on Thornton.  All FFBC members and Primavera club ride volunteers are free.  Guests are $5.
  • The members thanked Connie Nelson, who was in attendance, for her continued management of the Pedal Pounder statistics.
  • To the overwhelming joy for all in attendance, Andy Sass announced that he and Jan Green would co-chair the 2012 Primavera.  April 15th or 22nd are possible dates for the event.  Volunteers will be needed to head up the various committees; planning meetings will probably start in August.  Look for announcements on the Yahoo Group.
  • Wynn Kageyama suggested the Club consider hosting a second, income-producing event along the lines of the April’s Dale & Ken Excellent Adventure Ride from Paicines to Panoche, near Hollister.  He suggested contracting with the Panoche Inn to provide lunch and holding this smaller event in late spring.

The meeting adjourned at 8:05 pm.
