FROM THE SUMMIT

The Tour De France takes place this month.  Those of us who are fans of professional road racing will undoubtedly spend quite a bit of time watching the Versus coverage of the race.

This month also includes a national holiday, Independence Day.  For those of us who are working, the holiday allows us an extra day to ride.  It looks like we’re finally enjoying some summer weather.  Hopefully we will avoid having rides rained out in July.

Last month we participated in the East Bay Regional Park District’s “Healthy Parks Healthy People” festival at Quarry Lakes.  A number of people stopped by and expressed interest in our club.  I want to thank Conni Smith for representing the club at the festival and for letting me wear a jacket she had in her car.  I had optimistically dressed for nice weather, and it turned out to be a cool, windy day.

A video was shared on the FFBC List recently.  It showed an overhead view of an intersection with bicycle, pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic moving through it.  There were comments about the design of the intersection as well as the behavior of the bicyclists.  Some intersections are designed better than others.  In the video, I thought both motorists and cyclists made some dangerous moves.  Whether we are walking, driving or cycling, maybe we can all help prevent accidents by refraining from making sudden, unpredictable moves.

We like to have programs at our monthly meetings.  At a couple of recent meetings, we did not have programs, and I understand that this disappointed some members.  If you have an idea for a meeting program that you think would interest your fellow members, please let me know.

If you are participating in the Death Ride, enjoy the adventure!

Enjoy the holiday and the summer weather!
