FROM THE SUMMIT

Hello Fellow Freewheelers

May is a busy month for cycling.  There are century rides scheduled almost every weekend, the weather is usually just right, and Memorial Day weekend means The Great Western Bicycle Rally is happening in Paso Robles.  I’m sure that a few of our members will be traveling south for that event.  I’ve heard that it’s a great weekend of biking and fun, like our Primavera Century was on April 22nd.

Sold Out! Wasn’t that an exciting post to see on the website! This year’s Primavera Century was a fantastic success! Andy Sass and Jan Green did a wonderful job chairing this year’s event, and they had a great team of committee members working behind the scenes with them on all the fine details!  Cheers and thanks to all the committee on a job well done, and to all our wonderful club members who helped out with this event in so many different key ways!

May marks the return of the Wednesday Night Pizza Rides.  This month Carrie Payne will be leading the rides, which start at Mission Pizza at 6pm, for a short ride followed by Pizza. For $5 you get three slices of pizza and a soda (there is no charge if you just want to ride). For more details, see the ride calendar

Bike to Work Day is coming up on Thursday, May 10th.  There are many energizer stations set up throughout the Bay Area on that day for cyclists.  Click on the above link to find out more about Bike to Work day and to find some of the volunteering opportunities to help with this event as well.

Another event that is right around the corner is the Amgen Tour of California. The race starts this year on the 13th of May in Santa Rosa.  The first 4 days of this year’s race are all relatively close to Fremont.  Tuesday, the 15th will be our closest to home stage starting in San Jose going up Sierra Rd and then ending in Livermore after climbing the Tour’s newest addition of a climb up Mt. Diablo. That should be an exciting day of racing!

See you out riding in May!
