The first week of August was Ron's fourth ride around Lake Tahoe. This year Ron invited along a few friends to accompany him on the ride. Ron Razura and his girlfriend Donna were joined by Ron Mitchell, Tom Ellis, Dale Bodtker and his wife Sharon for the annual trek. We stayed at the Forest Suites Resort in South Lake Tahoe about a half block off Lake Tahoe Blvd, close to the California/Nevada state line. Forest Suites has very nice rooms, a swimming pool, hot tub and gas BarBQ upon request. The weather was great for the bike ride, which started at 7:30am and finished around 3:15pm. While the four guys covered the 74 mile distance with 4,035 feet of climbing in around 5 hours and 45 minutes of actual riding time, the girls were out shopping. The temperatures ranged from a cool 48 degrees at the start, warming to the mid 90s by the afternoon. Everyone dressed in layers to start the ride and peeled off clothes as the temperatures rose.

A clockwise direction was chosen for the ride to avoid the busy traffic around Emerald Bay in the afternoon. It was decided since Emerald Bay has places with no bike lanes it would be safer to pass through this area early in the morning. We made pit stops at Camp Richardson Resort, Emerald Bay, Meek's Bay, Tahoe City, Kings Beach, Memorial Beach vista point, and Spooner Lake. We were met at Kings Beach for lunch by Ron's girlfriend Donna and Dale's wife Sharon. The girls lightened our load by taking our extra clothes and backpacks to the Resort so we would not have to carry them. It was such a great day for riding, we were not the only bikes on the road. We met several other riders on our trip, some heading our direction, others going the opposite way. The weather was beautiful and we had no mechanical problems or flats for the whole trip. We couldn't ask for a better day to ride.

Upon completion of the ride, everyone headed for the pool and hot tub at the hotel where a well deserved soak in the hot tub was enjoyed. We started with beer, wine and snacks after the ride, which was followed by a nice BarBQ poolside. Dinner was potluck with everyone pitching in for a great dinner. We had a nice tossed salad, baked beans, steaks, hamburgers, sausages, and strawberry-blueberry pies compliments of Ron Mitchell. The food was either brought from home or purchased across the street at Raleys market. The dinner was great and the ride was a big success. RonR immediately booked his room for next year while trying to recruit us for another ride next year. The rest of us were too tired to make that decision now. I'll let my body rest awhile before I commit to another 74 mile and 4,000 foot ride! LOL
Until next year!
