FROM THE SUMMIT

I’m back.  Last year I did not run for a third term as FFBC President.  I said that it was good for the club to have changes of leadership.  What I had in mind was one President leaving office and another taking his place, maybe bringing different ideas and vision to the position.  I think that kind of change can be healthy for many organizations, including FFBC.  It didn’t happen. The position of President remained open for a year. The position of Vice President was also open for the duration of the last term.  For this term, I ran for President and was elected last month.  I’m glad to be back.  If you think I did a good job in my previous tenure as President, you might be happy I’m back.  If you think I did a poor job, you had the opportunity to step up and show us how it’s done.

The most common reasons I have heard members give for not serving on the Board, particularly as President, are that they do not think they have the time or the right skills.  I can understand those concerns.  The important thing is to do what you can with the time and skills you have.  The club depends on volunteers.  There are a number of ways you can volunteer including leading rides and organizing club events.  If you ride frequently with the club but rarely contribute as a volunteer, please think about what you can do to support to the continued success of FFBC.

The 2011-2012 Board members did an outstanding job, especially considering that there were only five of them on a Board that should have seven, and the club had a very good year.  Please join me in thanking Conni, Terri, Vanessa, Chris and Egbert for all the work they did to make the club a success this past year.

The club picnic takes place on October 13.  The 2013 Primavera will be on April 21.  Please hold the date.  We will need plenty of volunteers.

Gary
President, FFBC
