FROM THE SUMMIT

Have you ever visited the web site www.cyclehelmets.org?  It’s a site for proponents of riding without a helmet.  Most of us wear helmets because we think it’s safer than riding without one.  We require helmets on club rides.  Many organizers of cycling events and tours require participants to wear helmets.  A helmet can help you avoid a head injury or lessen the severity of one.  In some accidents, a helmet can save a rider’s life.  Although I found the views expressed on www.cyclehelmets.org interesting, I thought they were unconvincing.  I will continue to wear a helmet for a simple reason.  I only have one brain, and I might want to use it someday.

The 2013 Primavera will begin and end at Mission San Jose High School.  We’re Fremont Freewheelers, so I’m glad we’re starting in Fremont.  The school appears to be a very good venue.  It has plenty of parking.  It offers riders the chance to sit outside, if they choose, and enjoy the post-ride meal.  Because of the new starting location, there will be some changes to the routes.

We have a new meeting location starting in November.  It’s classroom N6 of the Fremont Adult School at 4700 Calaveras in Fremont.  It’s in the back of the campus in the Noll Center.  The room is good sized and has plenty of seats as well as a projector.  Come out to a meeting and see the new location!

I saw the movie “The Levi Effect:  The Story of Levi Leipheimer” recently.  I enjoyed it.   When you see it, watch closely.  You’ll recognize a few FFBC members.  I won’t tell you who they are.  I don’t want to ruin the surprise.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
