FROM THE SUMMIT

Many of us ride continuously throughout the year.  Some of us set goals for ourselves and keep track of our mileage, the number of feet we have climbed and other statistics that help us measure our progress and make year over year comparisons.  As long as we have weather that is favorable or at least tolerable, we are out there on our bikes week after week.  Some of the diehards ride regardless of weather.  Many of us wait for unfavorable weather to pass before getting back on our bikes.

Do you ever take a break from cycling?  Many of us have had to stop temporarily because of an injury, illness or other circumstance that limited our ability or time to ride.  Was there any benefit to taking a break from riding?  Did you appreciate it more when you got back in the saddle?  When you ride regularly year round, it’s easy to take cycling for granted.  If you take a short break, a week or two for example, do you feel stronger on the bike when you resume riding?  It seems strange, but it can happen.

Keep riding!  If you take a short break, enjoy the ride when you get back on the bike!  Think about leading a ride and sharing a favorite route with your FFBC friends.

The club picnic will be on October 19 at Quarry Lakes.  Save the date, and be sure to thank Conni Smith for taking the lead to organize the picnic.

Club elections are in September.  The new term begins in October.  We still need candidates to fill some Board positions.  Please consider stepping up to serve the club.

I’ll see you on a ride soon.
