Donna Boomershine has always loved the outdoors and is the personification of being "young at heart." She realizes that the age she feels is more important than her chronological age.

Here’s a little background information on Donna.  She met her husband, Lynn, in San Francisco while ice skating.  She was a figure skater and he was a speed skater, and at the time they were both amateurs. They used to skate at the ice skating rink by Ocean Beach known to some as Iceland

The Boomershines were an active family that would hike and camp the High Sierras for a week at a time. They ate the food they carried and the fish they caught and everyone bathed in the stream on these trips. Donna was the catalyst for these hiking trips, since she had to organize enough provisions for two parents, four kids, and the family dog to fit into the family’s Cadillac, themselves included.

The family went on vacations to Yosemite during the winter for many years and would cross country ski and ice skate there.

She loves all of her grandkids and they adore her. If Donna is ever missing from a weekly bike ride, most likely she is attending an event for one of her grandkids. They all love to stay at her house overnight and the girls love working on craft projects with her.  She is very proud of them and she often shares stories of their successes with her bike club friends on rides.

Donna took up diving in her 60's.  Since then she has dove in Thailand, Bonaire, Hawaii, and Belize, to name a few of the spots.  Along with diving Donna travels, practices yoga, and enjoys painting.  She has been watercolor painting for the last few years and is quite talented.

Donna first met Lori while she was riding near Stenhammer on a rickety hybrid.  They stopped to talk and then Lori invited Donna to join the group for coffee in Niles.  They had a great time and Donna has been a part of the FFBC and Lori’s rides ever since.  In 2006 Donna completed her first organized century, the Chico Wildflower. She finished it in the rain, but that didn’t discourage her from signing up for more. Donna went on to complete quite a few other 100k rides after that initial wet one.

Donna is an inspiration and is the person responsible for getting Tina to try cycling back in 2006. Tina is grateful to her for that initial push.  As Lori says, “ There are many times I wanted to opt out of a climb, but since Donna never opted out, I felt obligated to do it too.”  Donna Boomershine is an Amazing Woman!  Happy Birthday to you Dearest Donna!

*Come celebrate Donna’s 80th Birthday on Thursday, January 9th at 9am with the Thursday Morning Coffee Ride members.  Lori will lead the ride around Fremont to Mission Coffee.  For more information check the Ride Calendar.
