FROM THE SUMMIT

The Primavera takes place next month, on April 27.  We expect a strong turnout again this year.  We want the riders to have a safe, enjoyable day and leave with a favorable impression of FFBC, the Primavera and the area.  Each year we try to make the Primavera better than the previous one.  For the post ride meal this year, we are lining up food trucks which will give the riders a wider variety of food choices.  The Primavera is a major source of revenue for FFBC.  It takes a lot of volunteers to put on a successful Primavera that will make the riders want to come back and tell their friends what an awesome ride it is.  There are plenty of opportunities for volunteers.  Some involve working the day of the Primavera, and some involve preparing for the event.  If you haven’t volunteered for the Primavera yet, please consider what you can do to contribute.

Lately our ride calendar has offered us many choices for weekend rides.  This is partly because of the Cinderella Conditioning Ride Series (CCRS), Progressive Ride Series (PRS) and Less Aggressive Progressive (LAP) rides.  March is the last month of the CCRS.  The PRS and LAP rides will end in April.  After that, there may be fewer choices for weekend rides.  However, it is possible to still offer plenty of weekend rides to choose from.  If you have been participating in the CCRS, PRS or LAP rides, you are probably familiar with routes you would like to ride again.  Think about leading a ride in an upcoming month.  You’ll get to ride a route you like, and your fellow riders will appreciate it.  If you haven’t led a ride lately or have never led one, maybe it’s your turn.  Don’t worry about making rookie mistakes.  We all make them and learn from them.  If you lead a ride for the first time, you might really like it and want to continue leading rides.  We have a few members who lead many rides.  Each started by leading a single ride.

The Niles Discovery Church is collecting bicycle safety items.  They will be distributed mostly to farm and nursery workers who use bikes for transportation.  The items needed include lights, reflectors, reflective tape and anything that will make the rider more visible after dark.  If you have any items you can donate, the Niles Discovery Church will collect them at its bike blessing in downtown Niles on April 26.

It looks like we are finally getting some long overdue rain.  That will probably keep most of us off the bike some days.  If you venture out on slick roads, be careful.

Let’s go out and ride.
