Ride Coordinator – Vanessa
There are lots of rides on the calendar. The Saturday and Sunday ridership is good (PRS & LAP). There were 40+ people on the last LAP ride. Will be getting an update on the Cinderella training rides – now they are more like a club ride.
The Cinderella coaching series has 30 riders signed up.
General Topics - Gary
Treasury: Julia is not here but has passed to Gary that she has the names together for everyone who did early registration. The club will have a drawing next week for the various early registration incentive prizes.
Niles Discovery Church contacted Gary and is doing a drive to supply bicycle safety equipment to farm workers. They asked for a donation. We discussed and decided that since our donation budget was already allocated, that maybe there was an alternative. We decided that most members probably have extra helmets, and other safety equipment, and that we could request donations of equipment from the members, instead. We will detail it out further and present it to the club.
Life Membership: We have followed up on the suggestion at the prior meeting to consider awarding life memberships to deserving individuals. The By-laws allow for this. In fact several life memberships have already been bestowed. (Ed & Nancy Sampley; Daryl and Sally Wilson; Dean & Thena Holzgrafe). The board agreed that the process should be very selective and probably only award at most one life membership a year.
The next step will be defining the criteria for bestowing life memberships. Some ideas:
- Length of existing membership
- Contribution as a member – volunteering
- Use it as a way to entice “retired members” to stay involved.
- Solicit nominations
- Present at the Primavera workers party
UCLA Survey: Students want to do a survey. They want to launch a business to resell high end bikes. Gary will forward their email to all members so they can participate if they desire.
Future meeting programs:
The board developed the following list of club meeting events:
March: Slammin’ Salmon - Bob Miller will do a 20 minute “slide” show on his self-contained 300 mile bike tour from Redding thru the Siskiyou’s, Trinity Alp’s , cruisin’ next to the Salmon river, bush whacking over Go road to Crescent City and then coastin’ down the coast to Eureka.
April: Movie – probably “Breakin’ Away”
May: Still in negotiation – proposing Dale give a “Making the Most of your Garmin” presentation
June: Flea Market, Swap Meet night
July: No Meeting
August: Movie
September: Elections
October: Race Season recap. Race team members will show what real Quads look like!
November: 80’s & 90’s Nostalgia night (??)
December: No meeting
