FROM THE SUMMIT

April is a big month for cyclists in Fremont.  A number of our members will participate in the Cinderella, a ride for women organized by the Valley Spokesmen.  FFBC’s Cinderella Coaching and Conditioning rides helped get them ready for it.

The Primavera takes place on April 27.  Hundreds of riders will participate, including some from out of state and maybe even a few from out of the country.  If you haven’t volunteered yet, there is still time to do so.  Let’s make this a great Primavera that the riders will long remember.  The Primavera workers ride is on April 19.  Take advantage of the opportunity to ride one of the Primavera routes.

On April 26, Niles Discovery Church will hold a bike blessing in downtown Niles.  The church is also collecting bicycle safety items that will be distributed to farm and nursery workers who use bikes for transportation.  The most urgently needed items are rear lights and reflective arm and ankle bands that will make the riders more visible after dark.  If you can donate any of these items, please bring them to the April club meeting, and we can get them to Niles Discovery Church.  If you plan to attend the bike blessing, you can take the items for donation with you.

April 26 is also the day of Fremont’s Earth Day festival.  This year’s festival includes a bike rodeo hosted by EBBC.  FFBC will have a table at the event.  If you can represent the club at the Earth Day festival, please let me know.

It’s unfortunate that the Primavera, Earth Day festival and bike blessing are all on the same weekend.  If they were spread out a little more, it would make it easier to attend all three.  It will be a busy month.  By the end of the month, we’ll be able to breathe easier, especially after a successful Primavera.
