FROM THE SUMMIT

Do our club rides seem faster to you now than they did a few years ago?  They seem faster to me.  I used to be able to keep up with M paced rides.  Now I barely keep up with T/M paced rides.  Maybe I have slowed down.  I haven’t been riding as many miles per year as I did a few years ago.  Perhaps the pace of the club rides has picked up.  Possibly I have lost speed, and the club rides have gained speed.  Maybe you have experienced the same thing.  If you would like to see more rides that a pace that suits you, lead a ride.  You’ll be able to pick the pace as well as the route and starting point, and your fellow riders will appreciate it.

Independence Day falls on the first Friday of this month, making for a three day weekend.  For those of us who work on weekdays, the holiday gives us another chance to ride.  It’s also a good day to get together with friends, watch the parade here in Fremont, enjoy fireworks, go to a baseball game or take part in some other fun activity.  No matter what you do on July 4, it’s important to remember that the holiday commemorates a very important event in the history of our nation.  Whether you ride or not, enjoy the July 4 holiday!

A number of our members are participating in the California Bicycle Ride that begins in Ashland, Oregon (yes, the California Bicycle Ride starts in Oregon) on July 26.  It sounds like a fun trip with challenging riding.  If you are going, have a great time!  If you take some good pictures, maybe you can show them at an upcoming meeting.
