Remembering Alan Farian Memorial Ride

On the morning of Saturday, June the 7th, over 100 cyclists from FFBC and the Race Team met at the Bicycle Garage for a ride through downtown Fremont in memory of Alan Farian, the Club's long-time good friend and co-owner of the Bicycle Garage. The ride was to honor Alan, who had recently passed away of liver cancer. Larry Nolan and Aubrey Taylor Pamiroyan planned the ride and reception. After a few words from Larry, the group held a minute of silence, and then departed on a short, slow ride to and around Lake Elizabeth and then back to the Bicycle Garage for a reception 'catered' by volunteers.

The group rode as a peloton -- the size of the group was noticed by drivers and walkers around Lake Elizabeth, many of whom asked why so many cyclists were riding in downtown Fremont.  The hi-visibility and courtesy, shown by such a large cycling group, made a statement about cycling in Fremont, which would have pleased Alan.  Larry Nolan, (the 'patron') graciously 'took a thorn' for the peloton by having the first and only flat on the ride.

The ride and reception gave us all a chance to renew acquaintances, tell stories, express our condolences to Alan's family, and do one of the things that makes us a great club - enjoy one another's company and celebrate life through cycling.

Donations to Alan's daughters' college funds can be made to Jamie and Robin Farian and sent to
