Treasury Report – Bob Miller covering
Julia was out sick however she provided the register for Sept register as well as the proposed budget for 2014-2015.
Bob reviewed the Sept register:
- There was some income for membership dues and clothing sales. The majority of expenses for the month were incurred from pizza rides.
- Some income was generated with Terry selling jerseys.
Budget discussion – we reviewed the budget as presented by Julia. Julia provided the following comments in an email. Bob presented the notes at the meeting:
Activities - last year we budgeted $6,000, but only spent $4000. We will spend ~$1,200 on the picnic, we need to spend ~$2,000 on the holiday party, ~600 on pizza rides, and ~500 on snacks for the meetings. At the last meeting we discussed contributing more to the holiday party. Jim also mentioned having something special for ride leaders. So I think $6000 is good or we could increase it to $7000. We also need to agree if we want to spend more for the holiday party. Currently Susan is planning that each person would pay $20 each. If we reduce that to $10 each - we would contribute an additional $1,000. That assumes 100 people attending. Last party there were 80, and there are 80 people who have RSVPed for the picnic.
Ride Leader incentives will go up. Last year it was $25 per month for one gift card. I expect us to spend between $170 - $250 per month with the current incentive. Jan - Mar will be higher because we will have multiple rides on Saturday and Sunday with multiple paces.
Donations - last year looks larger but that is because I didn't spend the prior year's donation until the start of this fiscal year. We may want to increase the amount since we have a lot of reserve money.
Race team - last year we donated $4,000. I have that same amount in this year's budget.
Last year we budgeted to spend ~$10,000 more than we earned. Due to the success of the Primavera and not spending all the allocated activity funds, we ended up adding ~$3,000. This years budget currently has us spending ~$4,000 more than we make.
After a discussion it was proposed that the activities expenses be increased from $6000 to $7000, to allow the club to reduce the Christmas party entry fee from $20 to $10.
Dave F moved that the budget be put to a vote. Chris M seconded it. The budget was accepted unanimously.
It was noted that we are not sure if Louis Friedenberg has audited the books yet. That should be done ASAP or at the latest by the next meeting.
There was a discussion about monetary reserve. It was suggested that the new board think about what levels they think there should be for the Club reserve and then discuss this in more detail at the next meeting.
It was suggested that this should be discussed in conjunction with the Primavera committee request to possibly add additional donors. We have decided to table that discussion until the next meeting.
Ride Coordinator – Dave Fishbaugh
Dave mentioned that he is sharing the monthly ride calendar effort with Jim Takasugi. Jim is doing the ride calendar for Oct and Dave will do November.
He mentioned that he and Jim have a long term goal for their term, to look at automating some of the calendar submission process. They are looking into Google calendar and other similar tools.
Dave mentioned that the Ride Coordinator position takes an immense amount of effort, and wanted the club to be aware of incredible effort that Vanessa put in, single handedly, to keep the process going smoothly.
General Discussion - Luis Facha
At the prior meeting a suggestion was made and well received to setup a Pizza “General Meeting” every quarter to generate more attendance. That was not discussed further at this meeting.

Crank2 presentation on Tubeless tires - Brian Price
Brian Price, owner of Crank 2 in Pleasanton, gave a complete and detailed perspective on the pros and cons of tubeless tires. From his perspective it was largely pros, and he did a very good job as to why that's so. His position is that converting existing wheels to tubeless is probably better at this time then buying a new set of wheels specifically designed for tubeless. He also demonstrated the flat handling capabilities of tubeless. It was an impressive showing.
If anyone who is interested missed the meeting, contact Brian at Crank2 for further information. This shop gives discounts on the tubeless conversion for club members.
Presentation by FFBC racing team member Pedro on Light and Motion order
The race team is planning to place an large bulk order of bike headlights and taillights for a significant discount. If anyone is interested in being a part of the order, there will be a FFBC list info email going out.
Meeting adjourned
Approx 9:30 PM
