Tube Patching Party!!!

May 3, 2017 By David Walker Leave a Comment

Do you have one of these at home?

IMG_1555-reduced.jpg
Face it. Patching tubes is a boring activity. You basically sit around for hours literally watching glue dry. You want to save the environment, but what can you do?

Well, you can have a tube patching party. And you all are invited! We will provide patch glue, patches, sandpaper, snacks, and the tunes. You provide the hole-y tubes and conversation. Also, bring along a small pump to help identify where the holes are.

Don’t know how to patch a tube? Well, this would be a good time to learn. Don’t have any tubes that need patching? I may have one or two…

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About RWGPS*

April 3, 2017 By David Walker Leave a Comment

*But Were Afraid to Ask

Tired of getting lost on a ride? That feeling of not knowing where you are and where you are going is most unpleasant. There are many tools that can help us, but maybe we’re not sure how they work and how to use them. Join us for the club meeting on April 11 as we have a special program featuring Vanessa McDonnell explaining how to use the website Ride With GPS. The best part is you get to choose the topics for the talk as she’ll answer your questions. Is there something you’ve always wanted to do with this tool, but didn’t know how to make it work? Well, now’s your chance! Email your questions directly to Vanessa at vanessa@mcnmc.com. Make sure that send her some questions though. She said that if she didn’t get enough, she’d prepare a lecture on “The Interoperability of Low-Level Server Protocols and Site Reliability in the RideWithGPS Server System.” Even if you don’t know if you can attend, make sure you ask some questions and save us all from a fate worse than death!

March Club Meeting

March 7, 2017 By David Walker Leave a Comment

Join us on March 14th for our monthly meeting (although, to be fair, it has been a few months). This month as a speaker, we have Ginger Jui. Ginger is the acting co-director of Bike East Bay. She will be giving us an update on the work BEB has been doing to promote bicycling in our community. Hopefully, she’ll also discuss what she knows about all of the closed roads we’ve been experiencing the last few months.

Time: 7:30-8:30PM
Where: Fremont Adult School, 4700 Calaveras Ave, Fremont, CA 94538 Room N6

November Club Meeting

November 1, 2016 By David Walker Leave a Comment

Mark the date, November 8 at 7:30pm, for the November Club Meeting. Yes, I know this is election day. This is one of the most important meetings of the year as this is the meeting where the budget is approved. Come to the meeting and make your voice heard (after voting of course)!

Are you a bicycle commuter and need to ride home in the dark? Or do you just want to know more about riding at night (shameless plug: maybe to do my Chrismas Lights ride in December)? Whatever the case, as a special incentive to come to the meeting, our own West Kurihara will be presenting light systems and safety in the following categories:
  • Daylight running lights
  • Early morning and late evening survival
  • Night riding
  • Reflective accessories
He’ll be bringing in a variety of head lights and tail lights.
As daylight savings time approaches, this is the time of year when lighting becomes a mandatory safety item.  There have been several tragic accidents with our own club members in the past few years that could have possibly been avoided with the use lighting or better lighting components.
I hope to see you there. If you have any questions, let me know.
