Throughout the year, FFBC organizes several spectacular weekend ride training series. These series cater to different skill levels, from beginners to those preparing for challenging 100-kilometer and 100-mile rides. Detailed information about each series is available below.
FFBC rides vary in Terrain (1-5) and Pace (L,T, M, B, F), which are crucial factors to consider when selecting a ride that matches your skill level. To learn more about these factors, refer to our Ride Classifications.
These ride series and all our other rides appear on our Ride Calendar.
Riders under age 18 must bring a signed Minor Release Form. Minors under 16 must also have a parent or guardian accompany them.
GRS – Group Riding Series
The Group Riding Series (GRS) offers an introduction to group riding for club members and non-club members. This series includes fun, socially paced rides designed to teach you the basics of riding safely on city streets with a group.
The weekly GRS are offered during the summer and fall seasons.
CCRS – Club Conditioning Ride Series
The Club Conditioning Ride Series (CCRS) is open to all club members. This is the perfect, no-drop series for T and M pace riders who want to improve their cycling and group riding skills while building the strength and endurance sufficient to complete a full metric century (100K, or 62 miles). These rides have gradually increasing elevation and distance each week. All riders must be experienced riding in groups and self-sufficient, ensuring they have enough food and hydration and can navigate and change flats independently.
The weekly CCRS starts in January and ends one week before the annual Cinderella Classic ride.
LAP – Less Aggressive Progressive Ride Series
The Less Aggressive Progressive Ride Series (LAP) is open to all club members. This series has fewer miles and less elevation gain than the traditional Progressive Ride Series (PRS) and is aimed at Touring/Moderate (T, M) pace riders -especially those that climb at a slower pace. This series is designed for those who want to train to ride a metric century (65 miles). If you find some of the club rides too fast, especially when there is a lot of climbing, try this series and you’ll be ready for metrics like the Tierra Bella, Cinderella or the Primavera Ride. All riders must be experienced riding in groups and self-sufficient, ensuring they have enough food and hydration and can navigate and change flats independently.
The weekly LAPS runs January through April.
PRS – Progressive Ride Series
The Progressive Ride Series (PRS) takes riders on a journey through some of the most stunning scenery in the Bay Area. This series kicks off in January with a fun 44-mile, 1750-foot ascent ride. As the series progresses into April, the distance and mileage increase each week. The series culminates with a challenging 80-mile, 5600-foot ascent ride, leaving riders thoroughly prepared for the Primavera Century two weeks later.
The PRS is for M and M+ pace riders who already have a strong foundation of conditioning and experience in group riding. While other pace riders are welcome, it’s important to note that these are “drop” rides, where riders typically form subgroups based on their pace. All riders must be self-sufficient, ensuring they have enough food and hydration and can navigate and change flats independently.
The weekly PRS runs January through April.
