ARTICLES OF INTEREST

From Bob Miller: An interesting article describing a recent study that compared high intensity interval training versus longer moderate exertion exercise. According to the study, sixty seconds of intense exercise provided the benefits of three-quarters of an hour of moderate cycling.

CITY OF FREMONT

Master Plan on-line

Fremont’s Bicycle Master Plan Update

Bike Survey.jpg

The City of Fremont is currently in the process of updating its Bicycle Master Plan. The City’s Bicycle Master Plan serves as a guide for the implementation of the policies and goals of the General Plan.

The plan update will identify ways to enhance and expand the existing bikeway network, such as the installation of new green bike lanes, buffered/separated bike lanes, and trail opportunities. Thanks to community input, the plan update will also identify needs and challenging areas in order to upgrade or construct new, safe, and efficient bicycle facilities, and to encourage and increase bicycle ridership.

Fremont would like its community to share thoughts on bicycling in Fremont, and what is working and what is not. Residents can go online to provide input on existing and desired bikeways and difficult roadway segments and/or intersections by utilizing a user-friendly interactive mapping tool. View the plan.

For more information about the Bicycle Master Plan Update project and to receive a schedule of upcoming public meetings, contact the City’s Rene Dalton by Email or at 510-494-4535. The Bicycle Master Plan update project is funded by Measure B and Measure BB sales tax dollars.

One person reserved a club bike case.

Trish outdid herself as club food meister and has taken Rice Krispies farther than they’ve ever been intended to go. Rice Krispie bars, and Rice Krispie bars wrapped with interesting things found around the house – gummy bears, fruit wraps, sour wraps. They were all there and then they disappeared pretty quickly!

 General Discussion:

David Walker did a presentation on how to use the club’s RidewithGPS account, and in particular, what are the premium features that are available, and how to take advantage of them. After the event he sent around a link to his presentation:

Dave_Walkers_presentation

In his followup note, he provided info on a RidewithGPS discount for personal accounts from our sales representative:

Here is the scoop on the RWGPS discount:

The folks who make the Ride with GPS tracking/navigation app have set up a discount on their premium service for FFBC members. If you already use RWGPS and have been thinking of upgrading to the premium service, this is worth checking out. Do try the free version before you pop for the premium subscription, though!

 Details:

To get the discount, go to the URL  http:// ridewithgps.com/dc/fremont

The code is good for 20% (or $10) off any yearly membership. Easiest way to take advantage of this is:

Existing Starter members: Have them log into their account, then paste the URL into the browser. That will automatically apply the discount to the Choose Account page and take them there.

New Users: They can paste the URL into the browser, then go to Ride with GPS and create a new account. When they get to the Choose Account page in the signup process, the discount will already be applied, and they just pick one. OR, they can create an account and then follow the steps for the existing Starter member.

Please note we can’t offer partial refunds to existing paid members, but they can take advantage of the discount for their future renewal.

It was mentioned that County Supervisor Scott Haggerty will be presenting at our May meeting.

The meeting was adjourned around 8:30PM.
